Sweeping, slow burn historical fiction with a grumpy-sunshine romance. Beautifully written & highly atmospheric. Emotionally hard-hitting & swung the full pendulum from heart-warming to completely heartbreaking. The characters are well-written & mostly realistic. However, there were some moments where the miscommunication trope felt too heavy-handed & not necessarily believable. A solid historical romance with an incredible emotional appeal.

An ad asking for an adult to chaperone a child to Australia sounded interesting to Rose considering her current situation, but how would this work during the war?

A do not miss read for fans of historical fiction and women‘s fiction.

I adored Ashcroft‘s debut novel & I loved this one, her second, even more! Set during #WWII, Rosie flounders after an unexpected loss. On a birthday whim, she stops in for a job interview to shepherd a young boy from London to an Australian ranch. Family secrets, deep emotions & strong connections between the characters- all set against the dramatic wartime setting- makes this impossible to put down! I laughed, I cried & didn‘t want it to end!

LOVED THIS BOOK!!

FULL REVIEW 3/15.

An ad asking for an adult to chaperone a child to Australia sounded interesting to Rose considering her current situation, but how would this work during the war?

Rose answered the ad and accepted the job.

You will fall in love with the two main characters and not want the book to end.

You will also want to visit Australia.

A do not miss read for fans of historical fiction and women‘s fiction. 5/5

I couldn't stop reading this. It's historical fiction but also a love story. Rose answers an ad in the paper on her birthday basically because her life is at a loose end. She becomes the nanny of a 4yo boy and the plan is to take him to his family in Australia and it's the middle of WWII, so complicated.
