Girls of Summer: In Their Own League | Lois Browne
1 post | 1 read | 3 to read
A colorful chronicle of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, as recalled by the very women and men who were a part of it. From Philip K. Wrigley, the chewing-gum mogul who had the idea for the league, to "Gabby" Ziegler, captain of the Grand Rapids Chicks, Girls of the Summer is about dreams and about making those dreams come true.

Seems fitting to be reading this book today on the spring equinox ☀️😎⚾️ This book is fascinating!! I put a hold on it at my library after watching “A League of Their Own” for the 25,000 time last weekend. It‘s exactly what I wanted, all the info from the league that couldn‘t be smooshed into a feature film 😆 Definitely recommend! And it‘s only 200 pages so a quick-paced read to boot 🙌

Amiable OMG, I adore that movie —one of my top 5 of all times! 2y
ManyWordsLater Will I cry at the end of the book, like I always do at the end of the movie? 2y
Aims42 @Amiable Same!! Anytime I see that it‘s on TV I have to watch it 🥰 2y

Aims42 @ManyWordsLater I always cry during (that darn scene where the telegram from the War Office arrives, I cry like a baby) and at end of the movie too, every. single. time. 😭🤧 I didn‘t cry at any point reading, in fact, I thought these women were portrayed as wayyy stronger than in the movie. The author did a great job of keeping the pace up, I didn‘t feel like it slogged at any point 👍 2y
EvieBee This sounds great! Didn‘t know there was a book. Just purchased the Kindle book. Thank you! 2y
