Reeling from the death of her parents, eldest daughter Octavia strives to be a source of strength for her sisters. She defies their grandfathers high-handed meddlingand his desire to see the Staunton girls married. She forges her own path to independence, which leads to the gates of Caswell Hall. There, the governess has just quit her post, leaving a vacant spot in the local lords household. Simon, Viscount Althorne, is impressed by the sensible, dark-haired beauty, and hires her to teach his wayward young niece. He resents the loss of his carefree bachelor days, and longs to see the child settled so that he may return to London. But one perfect English summer turns their plans upside down, and he becomes hopelessly drawn to the one woman he cannot havethe governess. Can Simon convince her that he is a gentleman worth loving? Will Octavia allow herself to fall for a man beyond her reach? Or will class and duty separate them forever?

Pickpick

Yes, it‘s the lonely lord falling for his niece‘s beautiful, impoverished governess plot, but it‘s a nice, relaxing diversion. Really likable characters, and a romance that simmers, rather than reaching a quick boil. Not that it‘s a “sweet” romance, but you‘re not fanning yourself by page 50😄. There is a plot thread hanging, sure to be picked up in book 2 of a trilogy.

Dragon What a beautiful tree. 💚🐉 2y
Lynnsoprano @dragon It‘s a jacaranda that hubby and I spotted on our walk the other day. There aren‘t many around here, and they only bloom for a short time, but they are spectacular when they do! 2y
Dragon It‘s lovely- we have magnolia and camellia here but I‘ve never seen a jacaranda- 💚🐉 2y
DrJAdMerricksson Gorgeous tree!! 2y

Maybe it‘s because I‘m still dealing with a sinus infection that doesn‘t want to go away, but nothing more taxing than a little #romantsy is in the cards today.
