The Weather Changed, Summer Came and So on | Pedro Carmona-Alvarez
4 posts | 2 read
"Johnny is from New Jersey; Kari is from Oslo. They meet in New York, they fall in love, they marry, they have two daughters. They are living the dream. Until a terrible accident turns their lives upside down and they move to Norway, in search of a new beginning, a new dream. The Weather Changed, Summer Came and So On explores the classic themes of love, loss, homelessness and identity. Structured through multiple points of view and a dialogue between Marita and her father Johnny, the story of a family struggling to come to terms with unspeakable loss is woven in language simultaneously poetic and down to earth."--Book jacket.

Pickpick

The book start in the 50s, Jonny meets Karin. He‘s American, she‘s Norwegian. They marry and have two girls. Their kids die in an accident. The get some distance to this, they decide to move back to Norway. And get another daughter. It is this daughter that tells the story.

A book about love and loss, the relationship between parents and kids, about getting lost in alcohol and a marriage falling apart

Texreader That sounds like a very hard read. A friend of mine and her little sister were killed in a car accident when I was a teenager and so their parents lost both kids at same time. I heard they adopted twin girls sometime later but I don‘t know how they are now. The loss was heartbreaking and I was just friends with one of the daughters. I don‘t even want to know or imagine how parents would handle it. 3y
AnneCecilie @Texreader Actually, since it‘s the daughter who tells the story and she is born after their move to Norway, we don‘t get much about the loss and the immediate grief of losing their daughters, but we get a lot of the consequences. (edited) 3y

I have also just started ENE | skisse and want to read the other two as well.

I also want to start a new audio book

Cinfhen What language do u prefer reading in?? 3y
AnneCecilie @Cinfhen That‘s a hard one to answer. I read mostly in English, but that‘s because of most of what I read are just published books in UK and US. I get influenced by Litsy and BookTube. But I also have favorite authors in Norwegian that I want to read and I read faster in Norwegian too. 3y
Cinfhen I need to find a book set in Norway for #FoodAndLit ~ any suggestions??? 3y

AnneCecilie @Cinfhen I absolutely love Ida Hegazi Høyer, but she doesn‘t seem to be that much translated. I also love Anne B. Ragde, she has written a book series that is called the Neshov books (about a farm just outside Trondheim), the first book is translated into English and at this point she didn‘t know it was gonna be a series. I also love Anne Holt‘s earlier books about Hanne Wilhelmsen, but she and her character are lesbian, these books were written 3y
AnneCecilie @Cinfhen in the early 1990s. I also made a post listing Norwegian authors a few weeks back that I can tag you in if you want 3y
Cinfhen Thanks for the recs and I‘ll look for your other post 💚 3y

#BookReport

I finished the book about Anne and Rainbow Milk.

Currently reading the other books and listening to the tagged book.

AnneCecilie @Cinfhen I liked it because of the subject matter it‘s a hard book to love. I hade some trouble with the slang spoken/ written, but loved the early 2000s music references 3y
Cinfhen I‘m intrigued/ thanks 😊 3y
