The Theory of Footwear Pattern Grading
The Theory of Footwear Pattern Grading | Marcell Mrsan
1 post | 1 read
Footwear grading is one of the most complicated and complex parts of the footwear making process. In the last decades computers almost entirely took over this field, providing solutions for intricate problems, cutting production time, costs and speeding up the prototyping process. Modern CAD softwares makes grading faster and a lot more effective, but the human factor, the challenge of creating a series of sizes feasible, cost effective and so different sizes look proportional - is always there. This book gives a good overall view of this area, explaining every single detail regarding this topic, covering pretty much everything from the simple geometry, which the grading is based on, through the theory of increments and ratios, and details such as group grading, secondary grading rules and so much more. It also gives examples for grading, explaining the necessities of certain steps, regarding the technical background of it. All of this is explained through several illustrations, examples and detailed explanations.

Super excited to get my hands on a copy of this! There‘s not much written about patternmaking for footwear.
