Eh. 2.75/3 out of 5. I enjoyed the cat and the setting, I‘d also be interested to learn more about James. That being said- I don‘t particularly like the main character, and overall the story felt forgettable. I‘d give book 2 a shot but only on audio or from the library.

Back from a vacation that wasn‘t relaxing, only to have a crazy busy/running all over kind of week commencing in about an hour. Sneaking some me time with a bath and a book!

Can‘t write anything of substance right now. This was fine, cute and quick. Enjoyed it and will read on in the series. 3/5 ⭐️

#currentlyreading the last book I got from my library before it closed. The writing is definitely up a notch from my last cozy, and I do enjoy an antagonistic cat, but I‘m not thrilled with the characterization of the only trans character so far. I‘m not done, so it might get better, but I‘m disappointed. Are #queercozys a thing/where can I find some? I‘d love not to be jolted out of a narrative by internalized transphobia/homophobia.

This book was just ok for me... I enjoyed the bookstore setting and the character of hamlet but it was just to easy to put down.

My first #cbbc read! It was ok- I liked the cats role in it, and the location- a bookshop in NYC but I felt like the author was a little dated in execution for a present day book (unless I misunderstood the timing 2007ish). I would consider it a 2.5-3 out of 5.

This has been one long stress filled day. It‘s midnight and I am taking my few minutes for pleasure reading when I realized this entire moment was brought to me by #litsy- the book is part of #cbbc @BookwormAHN , the book sleeve I‘m using made by @BethM I believe and the bookmark from a swap but I can‘t remember which one....

Yup, there‘s a cozy mystery featuring a #BlackCat . There are actually several, but this one is a bonus, as it‘s set in a bookstore. Haven‘t read this series yet, but a book with cats and bookstores can‘t be that bad, right?? #FallIsBooked

My first adventure into cozy cat mysteries

I am a sucker for books set in bookstores, so I really enjoyed that aspect of it. The mystery was pretty good. Several suspects kept me guessing. I didn't like how quick they were to blame the cross dressing character. It seemed they went out of their way to accuse him. It also seemed the murderer's confession was a little to easy to obtain. This is a promising start to a new series.

Check out the black cat bookshop mysteries by Ali Brandon. I hope she is writing more!

Writing is good, and there aren't so many characters that the author can't spend time on fleshing them out. Overall, I like the general premise because, you know, a bookshop and a cat and a mystery. My problem is that a cat solving mysteries by doing things like knocking a book off the shelf has already been done very well in the Cat Who books. I'd read another to see if that works out differently in another book.

Second book for the #bookisholympics. A physical book this time - a mystery with a cat and a bookshop. It doesn't get any better than that, does it?
