This isn‘t a book you can enjoy, as it‘s a memoir of poverty and abuse. The list of content warnings could fill a review, so look them up if you need them.

That said, I was rooting for Joseph and his menagerie of doomed pets and his siblings and friends. I thought the writing was poetic. Generational trauma from the frontlines.

Shew, this stumped me! Not sure if #Aardvark does memoirs (?) but I've spent an embarrassing amount of time digging through books for this clue and it's the best I could come up with. I don't even have the energy to go emoji by emoji to explain why. A couple you can see on the cover, but he also describes escaping into "geek culture" and games during his childhood. I dunno, my brain is shot. Always possible I'm missing something super obvious ?

Mehso-so

I‘m honestly not sure how I feel about this book. It is tragic and difficult to read, which makes it an important story to share. But it‘s hard to love or even like, because it is all forms of trauma in one short novel. The author‘s bravery is paramount. But I can‘t love it because of it‘s very nature.
