pickThis author is an amazing writer. This is one of those books that's beautiful despite having little to no plot. It's about an Alsatian young woman who marries a Moroccan soldier and moves to that country and starts a family. It's about culture and religion and living in a colony right before it isn't a colony any longer. Setting is 1950s Morocco.

vlwelser @JamieArc she also wrote The Perfect Nanny (or Lullaby). But I liked this one better somehow. They're vastly different. She has a couple of others I haven't read. Yet. 2y
