Final review for this morning... so I've been stuck on my own #BookChain challenge because I needed to read a book whose title started with the next letter in the alphabet from my last book's title, i.e. the letter I. None of my upcoming book start with an I so I turned to my own shelves to see if I could find a quick read - and came across this 1965 MG read. Set in Maine near the Penobscot Indian Island Reservation, which I didn't even know ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) existed, the story is about two siblings who haven't been living in the area very long and who have befriended some of the Native American children living on the reservation. The story touches lightly on being friends even if someone doesn't look or live like you, and the main character concludes by realizing that everyone is different from everyone, and that's part of what makes life so interesting. The mystery itself is simple but ⬇ 1y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) but fun, and I was a bit mind-blown that their parents just let these two kids take the bus to Bangor and back on their own to see if they could find a man that none of them actually know very well...!!!

This one isn't going to be some kind of forever classic, but it's a typical fun little MG mystery from the era, and since I purchased it at a booksale back in 1997, I suppose it's about time I read it 😂

Clwojick I‘m stuck too! Next up is Y for me, but non of my Blake Pierce books start with a Y, so it‘ll have to wait until next week. 🫣😂 1y
Andrew65 Great progress 👏👏👏 1y
Clare-Dragonfly How do you even know what year you bought this?! 1y
TheAromaofBooks @Clare-Dragonfly - I'm pretty obsessive about writing on flyleafs when I purchase books, so this one has its place of origin in my high school scrawl 😂 1y
MittenGirlPeach I love her books! I own a number of them from childhood and I‘ve collected others in used bookstores. They‘re “of a time” for sure, but they do feature stronger roles for girls than was the norm when written. 1y
TheAromaofBooks @MittenGirlPeach - Yes!! I also have several of her books from old booksales and whatnot. I really enjoy them and appreciate the way that she does weave in lessons about not judging people by how they look or what you've heard about “their kind.“ They are from their era, but I also think she was doing her best to look forward when she wrote them. 1y
