Pears gets more into his stride in this, the second book in the series. Enjoyable characters and a plot just complicated enough to be distracting make it a perfect book for reading when over-tired.

‘I understand that. But it‘s a job for the local carabinieri, isn‘t it? After all, they must be used to it by now. Foreigners die in Venice all the time. People write books on it.‘

Bored. I was bored throughout this book. I rallied to become slightly interested at one point then fell back into ennui. Not sure if it's the book or me. Either way, now done with this series.

Morning reading with coffee! I didn't like the first in the series but I'll give this one a chance at redemption.

'But if people went round assassinating all difficult colleagues, there'd be no one left.' -- Truth! An entertaining read while waiting at the dentist!
