dabbe #ditto to infinity and beyond! Don't get me on my 🧽+📦!!! 🤣🤣🤣 12mo
CollapsingLibrary I was just telling my coworker about the judge‘s ruling and how I was happy to see something positive happen. Never thinking this would be the response 🤦‍♀️ 12mo
Susanita Like the counties that were ordered to integrate public pools so they shut them down instead. 😡 12mo

Hooked_on_books I should have seen this coming but didn‘t. That‘s the MO, right? Start small and when that works, ratchet it up. And some of the books they removed were children‘s books about farting. What?!? What exactly is objectionable about a normal bodily function we all have that indicates a functioning GI tract? I don‘t get it. 12mo
Aimeesue This stuff makes me so angry. Cut off your nose to spite your face, there Texas Town. Ugh. 12mo
Suet624 People need to become much more active politically in order to stop these people who decide what is “right”. 12mo
Leftcoastzen @Suet624 I just never thought people would get so nuts! I defend a parents right to control what their kids read but when did it become normal to have people telling libraries & teachers what ALL kids shouldn‘t read!😡 12mo
batsy @Suet624 You're so right. I'm looking at the political landscape in my own country and it feels exactly the same. 12mo
Suet624 It looks as though Missouri just defunded all their libraries for the same reason. 12mo
Leftcoastzen @Suet624 oh no! I didn‘t see that , so disgusting! The dark ages are here ! I will have to look that up 12mo

The book bans that have been sweeping across the country have hit close to home. MO Secretary of State is proposing a rule to place the authority over library materials in the hands of activist groups who want to remove materials, under the terribly disingenuous guise of “protecting children.“ Public comment period to voice your opposition is open until 12/14. Please email & make your voice heard. Link w/ more info in comments below:

Aimeesue It's so weird that the parents that want to ban books want to offshore the oversight of their kids to the government, basically. Also amusing is the fact that they seem to think BOOKS are the problem. Have they not met the internet? 1y
vivastory @Aimeesue So true. Honestly their kids were never going to be forced to read the books they object to. They just want to completely control library materials so nobody can readily access it. 1y

Branwen This is absolutely terrifying. 1y
Branwen It's getting out of hand all across the country and I am constantly worried about something like this happening at my library. Will definitely be emailing them. Thank you for sharing! 1y
BarbaraBB Terrifying indeed and unthinkable that this is really happening in the states 1y
vivastory @Branwen I figured it was a matter of time before it happened in my state, but it's no less disheartening. Thank you so much for taking the time to email them. It sounds like they are starting to get a lot of pushback here on it. 1y
Aimeesue @Branwen It IS terrifying, in some ways. OTOH, there's no better way to get a kid to read a book than to tell them they can't. Every time these groups try to ban a book around here, borrows and holds at the library shoot into the stratosphere and sales do too. (edited) 1y
vivastory @Aimeesue @branwen Yeah, didn't MAUS, a fantastic but 40 year old book, become one of the best sellers of last yr after it was banned? These people don't learn...bc they don't read 1y
Aimeesue @vivastory Sure did! When there was a push to ban Lawn Boy in schools in Virginia, I kept checking the holds lists on Libby. Every single one (I have 10 library cards because Fairfax County PL has reciprocal borrowing agreements with all the surrounding counties) was months long! Which, unbeknownst to the protesters, keeps those titles from being culled! 😂 (edited) 1y
Aimeesue I mean, OBVIOUSLY attempts to ban books or change acquisition procedures to give politicians/ angry parents control over what *everybody* can read is a bad, bad thing. But they're definitely not having the effect the protesters intended. In a big way. 1y
Reggie I hope they go after the Bible then. Cause that book gets pretty violent. Lol 1y
Branwen @vivastory @Aimeesue I definitely had to order 3 extra copies of Maus I and Maus II for the library because after that story went viral, everyone wanted to read it! We had dozens of holds on them! 👍🏻💕📚 1y
vivastory @Reggie So true 1y
vivastory @Branwen That's wonderful! I hope that the readers who placed holds continued their journey of controversial lit 1y
Aimeesue @Branwen Good! Those contrary people who read books because someone tries to ban them? Those are my people! ❤️ 1y
Aimeesue @Reggie All the smiting! And the begatting! And, dear lord, that Smutty Song of Soloman! Think of the children!!! 1y
Reggie @Aimeesue lol, the only reason I brought it up is because I think it already‘s happened somewhere in Texas. Where the crazies got a taste of their own medicine. All fun and games until it comes for your reading. 1y
Aimeesue @Reggie They never seem to think about that, do they? 😏 1y

😳😱😳😱😳😱😳😱😳😱😳😱😳

If you live in Missouri, please contact your legislators and be very vocal in your opposition to this appalling bill. Spread the word too!

https://pen.org/press-release/proposed-book-banning-bill-in-missouri-could-impri...

MidnightBookGirl This is ridiculous! I really hope this bill doesn't pass! 4y
goodbyefrancie I live in Missouri, and have been sharing this widely. I have already contacted Ben Baker, the moron who is responsible for this bill. If you look at his bio, almost everything he has proposed involves censorship, control over women, or guns. He is a minister, has been on the board at a pregnancy center...and maybe scariest of all...has four daughters. I hope those girls have good support systems outside their home as they grow. 4y
goodbyefrancie Call, email, tweet, whatever works. 4y

goodbyefrancie I am furious about this idiocy. If someone doesn't want to read a book, don't freaking read it. 4y
saresmoore Insane! 4y
Heretherebedragons Pardon my very strong French here, but WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. F*CK, Missouri legislators? This appalling. The potential harm of this fickle law...I can, unfortunately, imagine and I shudder. Grrrr 🐯 (okay, rant here over). 4y
fandom_hellspawn99 No no no! This is absolutely ridiculous! Extreme censorship is the one of the things that really riles me up 👿😠 The fact they would go as far as to basically hold a threat like that over their heads is absurd! If you don't want your child to read that content then monitor what they check out yourself!!! 😩😩😩 Sorry I'm way too intense on this... 4y
Annl @goodbyefrancie I too worry for his daughters and totally agree if you don‘t want a child to read a book don‘t let them. The library is for everyone! 4y
GinaKButler Completely outrageous.😩 4y
KT1432 @goodbyefrancie I'm just as appalled that he's been on a PREGNANCY center board. Under what credentials?? I hope this latest stunt of his doesn't pass. And as a parent I say keep your kiddos out of the adult book section? And keep your nose out of other folks business. 🤷🏽‍♀️ (edited) 4y
ravenlee @lele1432 I would guess that means a so-called crisis pregnancy center, which is a Christian-run fake of a medical facility existing entirely to trick vulnerable women out of considering abortion. 4y
goodbyefrancie @lele1432 @Annl I'd say I don't know how he got elected, but I've learned not to be shocked by some of the "winners". If he wants to impose his religion into my laws and government, he can make his church pay taxes. 4y

I‘m trying to institute a book buying ban until I get Bingo. I wonder if I can do it? These are all books that fit into the #LitsyAtoZ and/or the #GoodreadsAroundtheYearin52Books Challenges.
Update (01/07) 🤣🤣🤣🤣Right, like I have the strength for that.

TommieMarie74 Good idea!! 6y
RainyDayReading Anna Dressed In Blood! Boy does that book bring back memories xD Hope you enjoy it! 6y
Mdargusch Good luck! 6y
MaleficentBookDragon This would work also for the #unreadshelfproject 6y

The fact that Nook (Barnes & Noble) has decided to remove accounts of erotica authors has made me think of censorship. We read what we like and we spend our hard-earned money the best way we see fit. Are they going to remove Game of Thrones, Anne Rice's Beauty series, FSOG, manga books?
More on this here http://bit.ly/2w3GckM

TrishB Thats worrying 😬 7y
julesG I wonder what's next. Burning books? 😬 7y
DGRachel I don't like that at all. 😡 7y

CoverToCoverGirl Choosing what to read should be up to the reader not the book store! Smells of censorship! Not right! 7y
Bostonmomx2 B&N seems to be working really hard to kill their entire business. 7y
JoRead @Bostonmomx2 I honestly like the store and the way they do business but I don't know why they have to make it so difficult for authors 7y

😪😪😪😪

I have been told I must not buy anymore books until I've read at least half my library 📚.. (amount currently unknown).

So I was thinking rather then seeing as a negative 👎 let's turn it into a positive 👍

I am thinking of hosting or having, if people want to join then that's cool by me!

X2 MONTHLY 24 HOUR READATHONS

@MrBook #readathons #bookbuyingban #readingproblems #promblemsofabookworm

litmuggle I put myself on a ban too I can only buy a 1 book for every 10 I read from my tbr. 7y
MrBook Want me to share? 😁 7y
Whatannareads @litmuggle yeah that what I'm hoping to do and thought doing a TBR READATHON, x2 monthly would be fun 😊 7y
See All 19 Comments
Whatannareads @MrBook that would be fab, im just working on the rules and date for first one x X 7y
MrBook 😉👍🏻 7y
LauraBrook Ooooh, I'm SO IN for this!!! 🤘🏼 7y
HotMessJess I'm in on this! Let's do one this Sunday! 😍😍😍 7y
MyBookLife I'm in!! Sunday sounds great!! 7y
StephanieMarie I will join! I'm in a similar situation I think except I haven't quite gotten an ultimatum yet (but I'm sure it's coming as the space in the house fills up with books!) 7y
sprainedbrain I would love to do this twice a month! 7y
Whatannareads Ok guys I do work shifts by the way so may not always be weekend readathons which is why I decided too x2 monthly to give lots of people a chance to join! (edited) 7y
Whatannareads But If this Sunday is popular then that's a good place to start! 7y
Whatannareads If I say midnight to midnight would it be easier if you all just stuck to that in your own time zones? X 7y
MrsV I'm always down for a readathon! 7y
SaturnDoo @Bookishlychaot1c I work a lot of weekends too therefore I miss a lot of readathons on weekends 😕 I have a lot of epubs that I have been neglecting because of library books. I am on a ban too. I need to read what I own along with my epubs. This Sunday works for me as well as midnight to midnight in our time zones. 7y
Caroline2 I'm on a ban too! 🙄 I have way too many books, to the point that they are actually making me feel anxious and pressured that I have so many too read!!! 😆😳 7y
Whatannareads @StephanieMarie Haha, no such think as too many books IMHO but there such a think as not enough room unfortunately 😪 7y
Whatannareads @SaturnDoo my aim of doing x2 a month readathons is too hopefully catch everyone by doing one weekend based one and one in the week. 😊 As I understand the plight of shiftwork x 7y
Whatannareads @Caroline2 Oh gosh I've been in that position before and it it sent me into a slump! 🙈 x 7y

They are raising money to make a duplicate library in Canada to protect all the internets archives from being lost.
