Debut author Jilly Gagnon bursts onto the scene with a story equal parts bite and romance, perfect for fans of Jenny Han and Jennifer E. Smith, about falling for someone in front of everyone. In this modern day love story: Girl likes boy. Girl snaps photo and posts it online. Boy becomes insta-famous. And what starts out as an innocent photo turns into a whirlwind adventure that forces them both to question whether fameand loveare worth the priceand changes both of their lives forever. Told from alternating points of view, #famous captures the sometimes-crazy thrill ride of social media and the equally messy but wonderful moments of liking someone in real life.

Feels like average YA for me. Predictable in many ways. Just didn‘t stand out to me. Teens in this workd are so fickle. They go from hating the girl and saying mean things, then later everyone‘s like “I love her hair” or “I‘m so jealous of her “. A pretty easy read if you need something light.

Currently reading. This will probably be easy to fly through. Time to remind myself why I don‘t want to be a teenager anymore (but I‘m still ok reading about them) lol

Book started:11/8/19
Book completed:11/20/19
Rachel who is a shy and quiet girl posted a picture of Kyle, at her small social media platform. The post unexpectedly became viral and the two become famous overnight. Due to the popularity of the photo, a reality show decided to choose them for a segment for the show, were they were required to pretend to be in love. In the end they fell in love with each other after getting to know eachother better.

I found #famous while searching through the library, and it was a great find! I wasn't too sure about it at first, but once I got started I couldn't stop reading. I finished the entire book in one afternoon!

Had to re-download Litsy since I just got a new phone. Look who's front and center on the App Store! You're the best ambassador for Litsy I can imagine @BookishMarginalia 🙌🏽

I liked this...not a scream it from the rooftops but it was fun. It really reminded me of the movie She's All That...mainly because of the characters. I seemed to picture all the actors as these characters. It worked. A fun quick read.

I had a hard time liking most of these characters. The best friend was awful. And it would have be so much more satisfying for Rachel to realize at the end that she's so much better than Kyle and doesn't need him. Because honestly, that guy was a major douche bag.

I did enjoy how the book addressed the online bullying as well as the disparity between Kyle's experience of being suddenly popular online and Rachel's.

So sad to report that despite uber cute dust jacket, this book was a disappointment. Story was great, but relationship between Rachel and her "BFF" Mo was toxic and painful to witness. I am still waiting for Rachel to tell Mo where she can shove it. I knew when we first learned Mo was basically pretending to be an "editor" to get into a playwriting program w/ Rachel that I'd dislike her, but I thought there would be redemption and there never was.
