Pickpick

I found this book really informative and an interesting look at how an investigation is put together. The fact that it was a page turner reflects well on Jodi & Megan‘s skills at both reporting & storytelling. The end of the book brought tears to my eyes. I applaud all the women who have come forward to share their stories & to help pave the way for future generations. I have my own #MeToo story / a boss who was very sexually explicit👇🏽

Cinfhen With his comments & actions. I never felt “threatened” but his behavior was always inappropriate & disrespectful. Looking back, I realize being young (20) I was “flattered”by the attention when I should have been outraged. I just assumed this was how corporate America works. 4y
TiredLibrarian @Cinfhen I'm in my mid-50s and when I think back to my teens through my 30s, it's amazing how much harrassment I put up with, and was even "flattered" by, too. We were socialized differently, and I'm glad it's changing - hopefully it's better for future generations of girls. 4y

Cinfhen We are probably of same age @TiredLibrarian ( I was born in 1966) and I agree, we were socialized differently. When I would tell my friends what my boss had said or done at the time, no one was outraged or surprised- it was typical almost “normal” behavior. Every friend had a similar experience 🥺 4y
Kalalalatja Things have really started to change in my generation. When I was a teenager, I remember being flattered by really inappropiate behaviour, that would outrage me now. I‘m so happy things are changing, and that books about the courageous women who are changing things exist! 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I‘m so sorry, Cindy! 💕 Even starting to work in the late 90s, I was flattered as well. I hope it‘s better for your kids!! 4y
LeahBergen Oh, geez. Yeah, tell me about it (ie; experiences of our age group). A friend and I sat together one evening recently (with a few wines 😉) and outlined all the “sexually inappropriate” things that had happened to just the two of us in our youths. It was shocking in retrospect. 4y
Hooked_on_books Sadly, I suspect most women have a story of harassment. For me it was a man pressing the length of his body against the back of mine on a busy subway train. I was naive enough to think it was by mistake, but since he adjusted to do it again after I moved, I was clued in. He was pretty mad when I put on my large backpack to thwart him. I‘m the one who should have been mad, not him, but I was just kind of bewildered. 4y
Cathythoughts Yes.. there was a lot of inappropriate- bordering- on - abuse behavior that I tolerated back in the day , as it was considered “ normal “ crazy stuff !!! 4y
Cinfhen I know I‘m preaching to the choir @Cathythoughts @LeahBergen @Hooked_on_books I‘m not surprised to hear you‘ve both experienced some sort of harassment as well @Megabooks @Kalalalatja but I definitely think your generation is from a different stock and much more empowered 🙌🏻 4y
Cinfhen I can‘t even count how many times I was rubbed up upon on the subway or crowed buses @Hooked_on_books and never thought of it as sexual harassment but more as a fabric of sleazy NY commuting 4y
Lizpixie I was forced out of a job at 17 because I refused the advances of my “supervisor” He was a total pig. Oh, and there was the one week I lasted at an army disposal store when I was 15 because the owner kept rubbing on me when I was stacking tarpaulins. #MeToo 4y
Cinfhen I totally get it @Lizpixie 😖 4y
