Enjoyable, but not quite a rec. After my attempts at escapism failed, I went all-in on a book set far into a pandemic. While there were fantastical elements from the start - the illness‘s notable symptom is unstoppable laughter- the early worldbuilding laid out a secular near-future city. But the conclusion leans much more into fantasy & spirituality than scifi, & the change from “hallucinations” to “weird but real” just wasn‘t organic for me
