Pickpick

Definitely one of the shortest, quickest but most fulfilling biographies of Poe I‘ve ever read. If you don‘t want to get into a ton of detail and the supposed symbolism behind every piece of Poe‘s writing, this is the book for you. Great start to finish with a ton of follow up reading listed (some of which now sit on my TBR). My first five star read of 2018!

The Collected Letters of Edgar Allan Poe: 1847-1849 | Edgar Allan Poe, Burton Ralph Pollin, Jeffrey A. Savoye
post image

“Literature is the most noble of professions. In fact, it is about the only one fit for a man. For my own part, there is no seducing me from the path.” - Edgar Allan Poe, letter to Frederick W. Thomas - February 14, 1849.

I have always loved this quote. It is perfectly fitting. Absinthe of Poe was my old blog, a play on the drink which Poe was (in)famously fond of (not true by the way) and the word absence.

Raven and Other Poems | Edgar Allan Poe

I collect Poe images off the net like I do copies of his work. I don‘t even know how many mega/terra bytes I have but I‘m always scouring for more. This is just one of the many. I‘ve always loved the word cloud used to create an image. Do you have any favourite author or character that you find yourself constantly collecting?

huntersmom1977 I‘m with you on POE!! All the way! I remember being introduced to Shakespeare and exploring famous authors and poets in high school and POE & Shakespeare really stuck with me. 2y
TommieMarie74 For me it‘s Alice in Wonderland and The Little Prince. 2y
GarthRanzz @huntersmom1977 I don‘t remember how I found Poe. It wasn‘t my parents but it was before middle school. He‘s just always been there. But my high school English teacher introduced me to Shakespeare and I‘ve loved his work ever since. I blame him (my teacher) for making me a lifelong Anglophile along with my step-father who got me hooked on British comedy. 2y

GarthRanzz @TommieMarie74 There is some really cool Alice work always floating around. I do love how the illustrations just make that story. I have to admit I don‘t know a lot about The Little Prince. 2y
TommieMarie74 @GarthRanzz I‘m always amazed by the Alice artwork I find. I have numerous copies of that and Through the Looking Glass but I‘m really picky with what I purchase because the artwork can make or break the story. As for The Little Prince. When I was small, I watched a movie adaptation of the book filmed in 1974. It was love at first sight. 2y
huntersmom1977 Hey Scott, are you a fan of Monty Python? 2y
GarthRanzz @huntersmom1977 Can I get a Hell Yes! And anything else the guys have done. That‘s the show my step-father used to introduce British comedy to me. 2y
GarthRanzz @TommieMarie74 So I know this is a touchy area for some but what did you think of the Burton movies? 2y
huntersmom1977 @GarthRanzz Nice!! Haha!! Me too buddy!☺️ 2y
GarthRanzz @huntersmom1977 What about Fawlty Towers? 2y
huntersmom1977 That too!! 😁😁😆 2y
GarthRanzz @huntersmom1977 I just love John Cleese! He has a new one that just started airing on the BBC; Hold the Sunset. Can‘t wait to see if it‘s any good. 2y
huntersmom1977 I will definitely check it out! Thanks so much for the heads up buddy 😊😊 2y
GarthRanzz @huntersmom1977 You‘re very welcome my friend 😊 2y
TommieMarie74 @GarthRanzz I really liked the Burton movies. They aren‘t exactly like the books but they aren‘t supposed to be. Those movies are like a third book to me. The names may match the books but the plots involve an adult Alice that Lewis Carroll hadn‘t written about. If that makes any sense. Lol 2y
GarthRanzz @TommieMarie74 Makes total sense! And that‘s the best way to treat them I think. A continued story, behind what Carroll had written. Not a retelling but more adventures of his characters. 2y
