DID YOU KNOW: Neil Gaiman's first published book was a biography of the band Duran Duran? Published in 1984, he calls it "the worst thing" he's ever written, and has never allowed it to be reprinted. (Source: The Telegraph) #LitsyTriviature

One Hundred Years of Solitude | Gabriel Garcia Marquez
post image

DID YOU KNOW: In 1976, Mario Vargas Llosa slugged Gabriel García Márquez!!! "Some had surmised that the fight may have been over politics, since Mr. García Márquez has always been on the left and Mr. Vargas Llosa at the time had begun to migrate to the right... But, as Mr. Moya explains, the cause was a woman, specifically, Mr. Vargas Llosa‘s wife, whom Mr. García Márquez consoled during a difficult period in the marriage." #LitsyTriviature

Complete Stories | Flannery O'Connor
post image

DID YOU KNOW: Flannery O'Connor taught a chicken to walk backwards? "When I was five, I had an experience that marked me for life. Pathé News sent a photographer from New York to Savannah to take a picture of a chicken of mine." (Read the rest of Flannery's remarks on the experience in the comments below!) #LitsyTriviature

Litsy "This chicken, a buff Cochin Bantam, had the distinction of being able to walk either forward or backward. Her fame has spread through the press and by the time she reached the attention of Pathé News, I suppose there was nowhere left for her to go—forward or backward. Shortly after that she died, as now seems fitting." - from "Living with a Peacock" 8y
Megabooks Quick video of a kid taking a chicken on an agility course! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ReC85qqSpHA 8y

UnabridgedTomes Some teacher friends and I were just talking about Flannery O'Connor, and how perfect her short stories are for reading aloud in a high school classroom. "Where are you going, where have you been?" And "a good man is hard to find" in particular, are excellent. 8y
LeahBergen I love Flannery. I think it's time for a revisit soon. 8y
quirkyreader I enjoyed Wise Blood. 8y
debcaletti "Collected Stories" has always sat on my desk for inspiration. Love Flannery. ❤️ 8y

An Autobiography | Agatha Christie

DID YOU KNOW: Agatha Christie is the queen of crime, but she was also a huge fan of surfing, and is widely considered one of Britain's first "stand-up" surfers. "I learned to become expert – or at any rate expert from the European point of view – the moment of complete triumph on the day that I kept my balance and came right into shore standing upright on my board!" ? ? ? (Photo: Museum of British Surfing) #LitsyTriviature
