3 ⭐ There is a good story in here but it is confused by too many voices trying to tell the story and a bit of repetition. The characters felt too distant. I think I was spoiled by The Bear & The Nightingale triology that may have impacted on my enjoyment of this book.

TheAromaofBooks I had similar feelings when I read this one. It seems like if there needs to be more than three first-person voices to tell a story, maybe the story should be told in third person?? I was also distracted by how an uneducated/abused girl, an educated/loved girl, & a young noblewoman all sounded basically alike in language & tone. I didn't dislike the story, I just never connected with the characters. 4y
Mishu94 I‘m currently reading this and I have been at it for a week, I can‘t seem to read much in one sitting 😕 4y

JaneyWaneyB @TheAromaofBooks I completely agree a third person telling would have been better. I didn't warm to any character. 4y
JaneyWaneyB @Mishu94 my rule is if I'm not hooked by around page 100, I bail. Life's too short to be stuck reading a book I couldn't get into especially with my TBR pile and list 😄 4y
Mishu94 Well I forced myself up till page 257! It‘s too late to give up now I reckon 😂😂😂😂 (edited) 4y
JaneyWaneyB Keep going @Mishu94 🏃‍♀️📚 4y
CarolynM I use the 100 page rule too🙂 4y
