The Witch Elm | Tana French
post image

I‘ve read all of French‘s books and think this is the best so far. A master storyteller w/beautiful prose. A dark story that is a slow burn. Her plot is intricate with surprising twists and turns, especially at the end. Toby always felt lucky and blessed until a burglar hit him on the head and caused slight brain damage. After this event, things spiral out of control and change his life forever. A spellbinding and gripping read not to be missed.

Ruthiella M favorite is still Broken Harbor but I thought The Witch Elm was pretty good too.😀 4y
mcipher My favorite is The Likeness and someday when I get out from under my TBR I‘m re-reading it!! 4y

Cathythoughts I‘m reading it at the moment ... it‘s excellent ( I‘ve still to read 2 of the Murder Squads though) ...... I hope she is writing another soon. Wych Elm is very different from her others. ..... so good 👍🏻♥️ 4y
Lucy_Anywhere Ooooh, I have this on my Kindle - sounds like I should bump it up my TBR! 4y

Pickpick

Tana French's new standalone novel reaffirmed for me her position as my favorite mystery author--and, outside the genre restriction, one of my favorite authors, period. French's mysteries aren't about the mystery; they're about the character. In protagonist Toby, French created a frustrating, realistic, empathetic character who often recalled (for me) both the strength and fragility of Gatsby's Nick Carraway. I can't recommend this book enough.⠀

jenreads7 Ah! Thank you for this review. I hated The Great Gatsby overall, but Nick! He‘s the only one of all of them I could stand. I will check this book out! 5y
UnabridgedPod @jenniferajanes The Great Gatsby overall is one of my favorites, but I agree that Nick is the most realistically likable. I‘d love to know what you think of The Witch Elm. 5y
jenreads7 @Unabridged I‘ll be sure to post about it when I read it someday! 5y

I just have to say...WOW! What an incredible ride. This had alot more substance to it than I suspected, and I devoured every word.

Yes, this is EXTREMELY slow-paced, as many reviewers have pointed out. Yet, I think the pacing is what sets the tone for the story and makes the read all more worthwhile. #thewitchelm #tanafrench #fallreading

Some interesting selections (though I've already pre-ordered The Clockmaker's Daughter) but not gonna lie...really disappointed there's not one spooky/horror pick for October 😑 guess I'll go with the thriller, the next best thing 🤷‍♀️

Also, anyone else bummed that Tana French's new book #TheWitchElm isn't on here? Guess I'll pre-order that one too! #botm

ashley_o13 @erank58 I read this book from #botm back in June! Let me tell you it was really good! Kept me on the edge of my seat! Hope you enjoy it ! 6y
