Pickpick

I listened to this on audio and at first I loved it; it was funny and sarcastic, and really quite clever. After a while, though, things started to grate on me; typical YA angst, but with added magic. So instead of who is friends with who, it was about who was in which magic enclave, repeated ad infinitum.

Still a pick though, but not sure I‘ll read any more by this author, even though she‘s the #aam later in the year.

Megabooks I‘m looking for a witches one, but I so can‘t take that YA angst. Glad you enjoyed it! 2y
Laughterhp You should try her other books. Maybe just not in this series. I don‘t think they have as much YA angst. She also has a series about dragons. 2y
Cinfhen Excellent review! But does not seem like my cuppa 2y

squirrelbrain Yeah, if you don‘t like angsty teens, it‘s not for you! @Megabooks 2y
squirrelbrain Hmmm @Laughterhp - not really sure about dragons either…! 🤔 2y
TracyReadsBooks I‘m a fan of Novik‘s work but I would not suggest starting with this one. I absolutely love Uprooted and Spinning silver is also really good—and, like her Temeraire series, they are geared towards adults. I highly recommend both if you are willing to give her another chance. 2y
Laughterhp It‘s talking dragons, if that help either way lol. But the one I tagged or this one are a stand-alone. 2y
Caroline2 Oh no, that‘s disappointing. 🙄 I do not have the patience for teenage angst. 2y
