This book is thorough! A linguistic and cultural comparison of the differences between American and British English. It made me self conscious about coming off as rude when interacting with Kiwis tho. I learned that the way Americans ask for things in restaurants can come off as rude to others. 😩 #hoopla
I‘m very far from a linguist & haven‘t even taken a class in it, but I find language study so fascinating!
Took me waaay too long to realize that the people on the cover are answering the question posed by the title...😬 Didn‘t realize this book was a) a companion book to a PBS TV show or b) a sequel to a TV/book from the 1980s (The Story of English).
Trying to finish this one before #24in48 begins this weekend! Also reading for OWLsJuly2019.

I‘ve been struggling a lot lately with my dialect mainly because of my other flatmate so reading this was very healing. I just got the book today and it‘s already one of the most precious books in my shelf❤️ #finnishbooks #dialects
