“Would a trip to the Mardi Gras interest you, Nancy, and also a mystery to solve?” Bess Marvin asked.

Not sure how I feel about a definite article in front of Mardi Gras.

Side note: Mardi Gras in Mobile AL is older and tamer. IMO it would be more Nancy Drew‘s speed.

KathyWheeler I live in Mobile and agree with you about the older and tamer Mardi Gras, although we have had a couple of shootings at parades. 1w
Sace @KathyWheeler I hate to hear that. Mobile prides itself on the more family friendly Mardis Gras doesn‘t it? 1w
KathyWheeler @Sace Yes, it does. I‘ve lived here for over 30 years, and usually our Mardi Gras is safe. Those shootings were a shock. 1w
Sace @KathyWheeler 😢 and hello neighbor! (Sort of.) 1w

The purpose of the Unsworth‘s party was philanthropic rather than social, and the food had the sparse chill of asceticism.

"A poet once wrote that the woods of Gallacia are as deep and dark as God's sorrow."

An appropriately eerie beginning.
