Individual stories with trees as a central theme. So great writing but I just couldn‘t get into it.

Lisa_lost If you liked the writing you might like Bewilderment? I found the Overstory too long, too much, though thought the format was cool! 2y

Great book about a magical black and white circus

Lisa_lost Great? But you‘ve marked it so-so! 2y
Frankies.space There needs to be a rating between so so and pick. 2y
Lisa_lost @Frankies.space I think there should be one above pick. Like, fucking LOVED. Lots of books I read are good, but less than 10% I would whole heartedly recommend. (edited) 2y

Set in Jeju. Haenyeo divers and a matriarchal society where women are the breadwinners. Devastating scenes as Japanese colonisation came to an end for American troops. Two friends.

Untamed | Glennon Doyle

Her journey into a same sex marriage and self discovery. Written a bit like a self help book, a bit preachy. Enjoyed the feminist unlearning section at the beginning and some takeaways about activism and boredom/creativity

Three Women | Lisa Taddeo
Mehso-so

Three Women‘s stories and how they are portrayed in the media, made to be small, pleasing, or don‘t learn how to live their desires.

Lisa_lost I liked this book from a journalistic perspective. The EFFORT, the TIME, the sustaining of CONNECTION. A documentary triumph, but I didn‘t super enjoy reading it. 2y
Frankies.space @Lisa_lost bang on. Loved that she‘s told the stories with the women at the centre 2y

Road trip to Whangārā with girlfriend Llana and friend Ashi. Fraught relationships. Travels then to Levin to grandmother who is unwell. Set on top of recognition of colonial harm in NZ. Beautifully written and pleasure to read, sometimes uncomfortable as she struggles with own health. Not necessarily a good story with solid ending.

Short stories from Irish authors. Generally really engaging stories, often quite traumatic, with quick development of characters. Story of ABC children, having a ‘mental health‘ pillar.

Trojan war and Achilles. Meant to be a novel centering the women and their stories. I still felt it was mainly about the men and their egos.

Loved the story of Jane‘s life growing up to the point she returned to NZ at 40ish yrs. Such a great memory and way with words to bring it to life. Resonated with her feelings of confusion moving to London and joy of travel. Fascinating to read about Life in NZ at that time. Similar generation to my great grandparents.

Keen to watch the movie and also explore more of her books.
