I can't believe we are only a week away from the next #BookSpin draw! New to the list for this month are the tagged and Consider Phlebas. I've kind of been in a bit of a reading slump lately so hopefully this will motivate me to get back out there.

Finished the book I have to lead the discussion on at work so that was nice. I've made some progress in my current reads as well though not as much as I'd have liked.

My goal this week is to finish book two of OaFK and maybe finish listening to Hench now that I've replaced the earbuds I lost.
This book felt very Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girl Boss in the best way. I enjoyed watching the narrative unfold especially after the subtle twist is revealed in the midway point. I feel like this is a commentary on the American Dream and what it means to be successful.
#BookReport
Excellent reading week as I've managed to finish my commute book and my physical book. I enjoyed my time with both.

Goal this week is to make progress on OaFK and hopefully finish Counterfeit as I have to lead the discussion for it at work.
This was kind of a wild ride and I really enjoyed it. It's a tiny bit confusing and a little slow to start but once i was in I was in. I think one of its strengths is that most of the characters aren't truly good or evil lots of shades of gray. In some ways it kind of reminds me of Mindy St. Claire on The Good Place.
Low pick because the characters were all kind of flat and the ending was kind of flat. I did love reading a First Nations perspective. I found the elder's words about apocalypse especially moving and thought provoking. This was sort of a slice of life slowly dawning anxiety horror and I enjoyed that more than the shock and awe horror/thriller archetype.
Another gorgeous day off that is perfect for reading outdoors. I have to be really careful with the chapter dates in this one because I am terrible at remembering what the main narrative timeline is and when there is a flashback. Idk why I‘m so bad at remembering dates while reading but it is what it is.
Another beautiful day so more porch reading while the puppy sunbathes. I‘m not sure how I feel about a book with a character only known as a number though.

Had a phenomenal reading week finishing two physical and two audiobooks. Highlight of the week was the tagged. It was just seven hours but packed a punch.

Goal this week is to finish Burning Stars and make good progress in Counterfeit. I'm trying to carve out more reading time but lately the family has been binging Below Decks in our free time.
Beautifully written look at the nature of reality and good intentions versus repercussions. I wasn't sure of the narrator listening to the audiobook but I was won over by the depth of emotion that he was able to convey.
Doing some backyard reading while Rolo enjoys the sun in his favorite yard.
I‘ve only started this but it seems interesting so far.
This was just okay. I did the audio and every time I listened I felt like I was watching a Disney educational reel from back in the day. This is an alt history but all of the characters were morally gray so it was hard to actually root for any of them. It also felt more like three novellas tied together by genealogy. There were definitely a lot of -isms that definitely left a bad taste.
I'm a sucker for a good heist novel but the heisty bits were the best part of this. As a romance it was F L A T no chemistry between the three leads at all. It was a pretty light and easy read as I read it all in one sitting. Also the dog does not get harmed if that is important to you (as it is to me).
This was really slow to start but I did enjoy it once it got cooking. I found Marjorie to be the most interesting because she was stuck in a very strict kind of rut and watching her break out of it and become the person she needed to be was interesting. At times certain plot points were obvious but you still wanted to read on to see how everything would play out.

I failed at all my reading goals this week but I mean it happens so I'm trying not to dwell on that. I've gotten to about 71% of the tagged and 48% in Grass. I also realized I'm never going to catch up with the ReadingWesteros read a long so I've put that book to the side and maybe I'll read it later or maybe not.
#WeeklyForecast
Goal this week is pretty much the same as last week: Finish both of my current reads.
HAPPY #BOOKSPIN DAY TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE!
I was a little worried about leaning in to my chunkster curse with the BookSpin pick being number 2 (I made my list starting with the chonky bois) but apparently 2 had already been picked so Hyperion is not as chunky as I'd feared! Hopefully I can knock both of these off the list this month.

This week I managed to finish the book for work and make decent progress in my other reads. I think I'm like 60% into Atlantis and 30% into Grass.
#WeeklyForecast
My goal for this week is to finish Grass and get more caught up in the ReadingWesteros Chapter A Day read.
I can't believe it's already time to post the March #BookSpin lists! New to the list this month is the tagged and Hyperion. I'm starting to get a little behind on my reads for February but fingers crossed I'll be caught up in March. As always thanks to @TheAromaofBooks for hosting.

Managed to finish another audio and a physical book this week. Out of the two I preferred the tagged.

Goal this week is to finish Outlawed for work and then make headway into Grass.
I only picked this up for the SFF book club and was kind of really invested in the beginning but a little over half way it kind of slowed down a bit and it felt like a chore trying to finish. I think there's a lot to unpack about trauma and memory but I didn't really connect to the way it was laid out.
This was as dreamy and surreal as the titular circus itself. I found myself coming up with theories trying to tie the three separate narrative timelines together. The audio was good but I feel like in this instance it might have been a more immersive experience reading the text.
Trying to finish a big chunk today to keep on my monthly goals target. Rolo is asleep on the job.

Apparently this week was all about the audio. Both books were really great and I think that the audio really enhanced the experience.

Goal this week is to finish Thistlefoot and hopefully Outlawed if there's any time left. I'm behind on my self imposed reading timeline for the month so I'd like to catch up and get back on track.
Absolutely loved this and a large part was the audio narrator. I feel like most Norse retellings trod the same ground so this POV was a nice surprise.
It is a very cold, rainy, and really slow day at work so I figured I might as well get a few pages in.
I‘m enjoying the tagged but what makes it extra special is Sierra decided to ignore the dog and hang out with me while I‘m reading.
#CatsOfLitsy
Ocean's Eleven (2001) meets harder sci fi. The heist in this did not disappoint but there was also a lot to unpack about genetic engineering and slave/power dynamics. This was my commute audiobook but by about 60% I was looking for excuses to keep listening outside of that.
#BookReport
Had a pretty good reading week. I enjoyed both books I finished. One was my commute book so I was able to start another.
#WeeklyForecast
My goal this week is to make a dent in my current reads. The tagged is for work, ASoS is for ReadingWesteros, and Thistlefoot is for the SFFBC. If I manage to finish any of these I'll be starting my BookSpin which is Grass.
HAPPY #BOOKSPIN DAY TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE!
I am excited that only one chonky boi was picked and it was the double spin so I'll hit it later in the month. I've heard amazing things about Grass so really looking forward to diving in. So far leaning into the chonky boi curse seems to be going well because I haven't gotten two thick ones in the same month. (Granted, it's only month two lol.)
@TheAromaofBooks
This was very interesting as the satirical elements deal with a culture I'm not really familiar with but I enjoyed the ride anyways. I read a review that said this is a retelling of a story from the Buddhist tradition but again I'm not that familiar enough to verify that.
Making good progress on my current read while doing a little porch reading. Rolo just wants to sunbathe while performing his reading buddy duties.
#DogsOfLitsy
Low pick because I bounced hard off the physical copy with the weird pidgin talk writing BUT the audio was perfect because you didn't have to figure out how the words worked you just heard them as they should sound. It was a little bit misogynistic and overtly libertarian but there were still a lot of interesting ideas being floated around.

I had a phenomenal reading week and ended up finishing four books this week two of which I absolutely devoured. Arkady Martine is now a must read author for me.
#WeeklyForecast
My goal this week is to finish TMIaHM and make a dent in both the tagged and Saint of Bright Doors. If I have time I'll probably start my BookSpin draw when it comes up on Friday.
I have a feeling this is going to be my year to conquer #BookSpin! I actually finished both spins in the month they were drawn which is a huge achievement after the past two years of fails. New to the list this month are the tagged and The Space Between Worlds. Still adding books from my tbr in order of highest page count so that hopefully by the end of the year all the chonky bois will have been drawn ahead of the end of the year crazies.
Starting this tonight even though I can‘t remember where I heard about this and why decided to place a library hold on it.
I read this in one sitting on my day off and enjoyed every bit of it. It felt different than the first though because we have more POV characters to follow. Eight Antidote stole the show though.
I absolutely loved this nearly unconditionally. It was exactly the book I wanted to read after slogging through book commitments I'd made earlier. Mahit was an enchanting POV character and her adventures had me eagerly turning pages late into the night.
This was beautifully written and heartbreakingly juxtaposed between two timelines. But O M G did Mark make this an excruciating experience to read at times. Just what an absolute tool bag. Team 🐝
I can see why people say this series is really two duoligies. The end of this felt very much like a chapter ending versus a book ending and I‘m a bit sad I have other commitments causing me to put the next one off.
#BookReport
Managed to finish two books this week but neither were super exciting to me. I'm also really close to finishing the tagged.
#WeeklyForecast
My goal this week is to finish the tagged and hopefully make good progress in My Real Children because I'd like to move on to Memory Called Empire and finish it before the end of the month.
Starting this today for personal book club now that my work book club book has been read.
The stories and ways people navigate the world of animal human conflict were interesting I just found the author's humor a bit off-putting. It seemed like she was determined to fit her interview subjects into sterotypical characters rather than real people.
This is definitely a low pick because at the start I didn't really care for any of the characters or their struggles. BUT a little after the halfway point I was more invested and while I won't immediately pick up the next one I am intrigued to see how it plays out.
Rolo and I are taking advantage of the good weather to see how big a chunk of this book we can finish.

I didn't manage to finish anything this week but I did manage to make progress. I'm at least 50% in two of my three current reads.

My goal this week is to finish Fuzz because I need to be prepared to moderate the discussion at work at the end of the month. I also think TLtL is due in ten days so I need to get close to finishing that as well.
My commute book has now become my workout book since I‘m starting my fitness journey. The tagged is definitely different enough to hold its own against what ever noise is pumped through the gym speakers. I‘m about 50% through and have no idea where it‘s going. I‘ve been told the one big question I have about it doesn‘t really get addressed until book four. (!)
