Noughts and Crosses | Malorie Blackman

Chose this book for a book club I run at the school I work at and I forgot how woke it is! It is a love story that perfectly deals with issues of race, class and inequality. The students enjoyed the book especially because the roles were reversed as the black people were in power. They learnt a lot about how deeply institutionalised racism is and how racism is dumb. Glad I chose this book and more people need to read this series! #diversebooks

paige84 Love this book! First read it in a college course. I just found out a few years ago there are 3 more books in the series! 8y
Juwi @AshleyPaige YES! I read this when I was 12 and I was so happy there were more books! A great series and a must read for everyone! Malorie Blackman is one of Britain's best children's authors! 😎👏🏽 8y

Does My Head Look Big in This? | Randa Abdel-Fattah

Chose this book for a book club I'm doing at a school and they are really enjoying it! So glad this book exists as it's still such an important read for Muslim Teenagers (but also everyone else). I read this 10yrs ago and it's still funny today. It has its flaws, but it helps to 'normalise' Muslims and it's relatable for many hijabis. So glad the students like it and find it relevant to their lives! #diversebooks 👍🏽

read_diverse_books That's great news! I want to read this book too. 8y
Juwi @read_diverse_books I love all her books TBH. Hope you enjoy it! 👍🏽 8y

Really enjoyed reading this collection of essays on what it means to be a POC in Britain and on immigration. Loved Riz Ahmed's piece as well as Bim Adewunmi's piece. Definitely a must read for EVERYONE but especially for WHITE BRITISH PEOPLE /white people in general so they can see things from OUR perspective. Some essays are a bit dry but most are accessible and not too wordy or boring which can happen with nonfiction. 👏🏽

arlenefinnigan Loved Nikesh Shukla's essay. The 'NAMASTE, DICKHEADS' line cracked me up. 8y
Juwi @arlenefinnigan it's even funnier hearing him read it out loud! 😹👌🏽 I think there is an excerpt on BBC Radio 4 if you are interested! 8y
arlenefinnigan @Juwi definitely, I'll have to check it out! 8y
juliannebenford I'm currently reading this, must check out that radio excerpt too as that was hilarious. 8y

LOVE THIS BOOK! It's full of great quotes about women and feminism but most importantly it's full of really great essays about feminism and what it means to be a woman today. A must read for EVERYONE! I had to stop myself from saying 'yaaasss preach' out loud...😹

arlenefinnigan Cool nail varnish ☺ 8y
arlenefinnigan Sorry that's not a very feminist thing to say is it 😉 8y
Juwi @arlenefinnigan Of course it is!!! Feminists can rock lipstick and nail polish so thank you! 😎 8y

My fave stories were: Last Stand at the Cinegore by Libba Bray, Love is the Last Resort by Jon Skovron and A Thousand Ways This Could Go Wrong by Jennifer E.Smith. 😍😉👏🏽

Some stories were super cute but others felt kind of forced and the relationships weren't all cute/interesting enough.

Sadly I did not enjoy this as much as I thought I would. I LOVE Elias, Helene, Sana, Keenan, Cook etc Laia was really annoying and I don't care about Darin that much. It IS well written and I did want to finish it but I doubt I will be reading the sequel 🙄

Well written female characters FTW 👏🏽 Love Vee Johnson and Chloe Bishop and I love the setting of Cape Town as well. Starts of slow, but once you get into it, you just wanna finish it! Also Joshua Allen 💜 AND MONRO 💜💜💜

Even if you're not a fan of crime try it!
