Check out the #MuslimShelfSpace hashtag on twitter for some great #OwnVoices recommendations! I'm really looking forward to the sequel for Sofia Khan is Not Obliged which is out in April! Also looking forward to Randa Abdel-Fattah's new book! #MuslimsInLiterature #diversebooks
Shoutout to the people who donate books to charity shops 👏🏽 Love finding old and new books in Oxfam and other charity shops in my area! 😎 Can't wait to finally read A Darker Shade of Magic! #bookbuyingaddiction #charityshopsFTW #cheapbooks
Chose this book for a book club I run at the school I work at and I forgot how woke it is! It is a love story that perfectly deals with issues of race, class and inequality. The students enjoyed the book especially because the roles were reversed as the black people were in power. They learnt a lot about how deeply institutionalised racism is and how racism is dumb. Glad I chose this book and more people need to read this series! #diversebooks
So excited to read this! LOVE the cover. Hope it is better than Everything, Everything! #diversebooks
The perks of having international friends! So happy I finally have THIS BEAUTIFUL 10th ANNIVERSARY EDITION OF THE BOOK THIEF AKA MY FAVE BOOK. 🙀😻💜 Toto is unimpressed by it 😹😒 #thebookthief #fave #cats #booksandcats
Chose this book for a book club I'm doing at a school and they are really enjoying it! So glad this book exists as it's still such an important read for Muslim Teenagers (but also everyone else). I read this 10yrs ago and it's still funny today. It has its flaws, but it helps to 'normalise' Muslims and it's relatable for many hijabis. So glad the students like it and find it relevant to their lives! #diversebooks 👍🏽
Really enjoyed reading this collection of essays on what it means to be a POC in Britain and on immigration. Loved Riz Ahmed's piece as well as Bim Adewunmi's piece. Definitely a must read for EVERYONE but especially for WHITE BRITISH PEOPLE /white people in general so they can see things from OUR perspective. Some essays are a bit dry but most are accessible and not too wordy or boring which can happen with nonfiction. 👏🏽
So excited to finally be reading this! So far so good. Already a must read for everyone! 👍🏽#TheGoodImmigrant #currentlyreading
THIS BOOK!!! So good!!! I had high expectations but I was not disappointed so I'm really happy!!! I mean the death was sad and I cried and I laughed but INEJ GHAFA IS MY FAVE AND SHE SLAYS AND KAZ MAKING HER LAUGH IS EVERYTHING and Wylan and Jesper are too cute and Nina and her waffles lol I can't I just love them and I love this book and it was so stressful to read. 10/10 would recommend GO READ IT NOW (After Six of Crows) 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
YAAASSS!!! I have been in a book slump for weeks because I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS BOOK!!!
Every time they say 'No Homo' I die a little inside 🙄 But so far so good.
LOVE THIS BOOK! It's full of great quotes about women and feminism but most importantly it's full of really great essays about feminism and what it means to be a woman today. A must read for EVERYONE! I had to stop myself from saying 'yaaasss preach' out loud...😹
'We are taught that we must both blend in and stand out - a contradictory message indeed.' - Susie Orbach (Fat is a Feminist Issue)
My fave stories were: Last Stand at the Cinegore by Libba Bray, Love is the Last Resort by Jon Skovron and A Thousand Ways This Could Go Wrong by Jennifer E.Smith. 😍😉👏🏽
Some stories were super cute but others felt kind of forced and the relationships weren't all cute/interesting enough.
Love is the Last Resort is one of my fave stories at the moment! Perfect read for the pool side and beach! 👌🏽
THIS BOOK!!! It will keep you up at night and haunt you and all you can think about are the characters! I LOVE the writing and the characters especially INEJ and obv Kaz but OMG THE END IS THE WORST! It's just like WHY WOULD TOU DO THAT? 😩 but yay for DIVERSITY! 👏🏽 looking forward to the sequel!
This is the kind of book that keeps you up at night and one you just want to finish! So far so good! 👌🏽
Sadly I did not enjoy this as much as I thought I would. I LOVE Elias, Helene, Sana, Keenan, Cook etc Laia was really annoying and I don't care about Darin that much. It IS well written and I did want to finish it but I doubt I will be reading the sequel 🙄
I really hope there is no love triangle in this book! So far so good, yay for POC 👏🏽 for some reason Keenan reminds me of Jamie Fraser 😆🙈
Well written female characters FTW 👏🏽 Love Vee Johnson and Chloe Bishop and I love the setting of Cape Town as well. Starts of slow, but once you get into it, you just wanna finish it! Also Joshua Allen 💜 AND MONRO 💜💜💜
Even if you're not a fan of crime try it!
Read this book, not just because the characters are amazingly diverse, but also because Sarah Ladipo Manyika is just such a lovely person! This book is so uplifting and refreshing! I hope I am as cool as Dr Morayo when I am 75! 😎
A great collection of personal essays and travel writing from Africa! Definitely a thought-provoking read!
Really funny despite being set in Apartheid South Africa. If you're looking for a great book featuring a mixed race Muslim protagonist who likes to rebel then then try this! 👏🏽
