This book was at once frustrating and fascinating because Ann Rule is so neutral for most of it. She finished the first edition before Bundy made his confessions. So the book lacks any sense of horror, anguish or digust, and it does not get into too many details of his crimes or even into his background. However, it somehow really is a fascinating look at Bundy's adult life and crimes. Really well written, and not your typical true crime book.

What Alice Forgot | Liane Moriarty
Mehso-so

The narrator was so good that every time she voiced a child whining or screaming I felt like jumping out a window. The first 2-3 hours are excruciating, as they are basically in real time. Alice's story was interesting and not too predictable, which was nice. I also liked that the supporting characters had full stories of their own. Especially Alice's sister, Elizabeth, who is not just there to tell the reader what Alice forgot. A tad too long.

No_One *I listened to the Audible audiobook. 6y

I loved this one! I'ma true crime fan, and this was such a good, thorough read. I started it the week after the GSK was caught.

I really wanted to love it but I could not figure why Eleanor was so unrealistically incredibly clueless about everything. I really need to stop reading such hyped books, as more and more they are disappointing.

Smartypants I was also disappointed in this book, I don‘t think I even finished it. I wanted to like it so very badly. 6y
No_One @Smartypants oh me too, exactly!! The description made me feel like I would love it and then..... 😕. 6y

No_One @Smartypants oh wow, thanks for this tip! I don't mean to sound like a snob, but lately, when it says "New York Times Bestseller!!" the books have not been very good! I'm expecting better. Oh well. Different books for different people, I guess! ? 6y
Smartypants @No_One you like what you like! I used to push through and force myself to complete books I didn‘t like. This year, I told myself there are too many good books to read to be reading a book I‘m not fond of. It was very freeing to not finish some that I couldn‘t stand! 6y
No_One @Smartypants you know what, I need to do this more. I have only a handful of "abandoned" books and I'm sacrificing some serious time with really good books! You've inspired me! ??? 6y
Smartypants @No_One aww! That‘s the sweetest thing to say. ❤️. The perfectionist in me wouldn‘t let me NOT finish books and then I just let it go. I still try to determine if it‘s truly that I don‘t like it vs. my headspace that day or is it a topic I‘m struggling with (ie. Self-Help) if it is simply I just can‘t get into it, I let it go. It feels good to do so. I challenge you to let 5 books go before the end of the year! It‘s the #unreadingchallenge 6y
No_One @Smartypants lol!!! I only read/listen to 2-3 books per month so I can't promise to do this, but I will not stick with a book if I'm really not enjoying it.... that I will commit to! 😃 6y

WOW. Frickin' amazing. Certainly "out there" and not for everyone. I needed to get out of my "bad, predictable book" rut and this did it. Everyone would be able to see bits of themselves in at least one character from this book.

Angitron I loved this one too! 6y

Yay!! Finally a book that matches this bookjig! I have never been able to use this pink/green bookjig because I never had a book cover that matched. 😊💖💚

And FYI, there are far too many white/grey/black book covers out there!! 😄😄😄

The other one has a rose pink ribbon and like a dark rose/ purple flower. Maybe I do t match my bookmarks to my books because I don‘t have that many. Now that I found BookJigs they‘re the only ones I like. 6y
Kaye @Craftylikefox You and me both on the matching. I dress like a blind person. Don‘t really care if my clothes match or not. 6y

Kaye Don‘t blame you there @No_One .. did you buy more BookJigs ? I was just browsing through them on Amazon. Some of them cost a fortune. I wonder why the price difference ? Collector‘s items ? 6y
Kaye @Craftylikefox Amen, we can be in the Blind Dressers Club together. I think we might be a rare species, as I‘m guessing most ladies like all their items to match...purses, shows, clothes and jewelry. (edited) 6y

This book was okay. I thought I'd be listening to new facts about the THINGS in a home, but it was more about the PEOPLE who created/invented/popularized the rooms in our homes and how they are used, and many many side stories that are only tangentially related. Bait & switch Bill Bryson!!! Oh, and why so many book cover designs? 🤔

ferskner I felt the same way, but luckily I really enjoyed all the tangents so it worked out okay. :) 6y

This book was so good! As a debut novel, it is 20x better than a novel I read recently that was probably that author's 20th novel. The characters were real - fully developed with flaws, fears and all. The story about a Vietnam Vet who was convicted of murder - but did he do it? - really drew me in. The suspense was real and the ending was most satisfying. Looking forward to more of this author's work.

My first time reading this author. I think he tried to do too much: police procedural, whodunit, friendship drama, family drama... it did not come together so well. Not bad, but an unsatisfying ending. I'm surprised Beth and Kate didn't know each other better (they were "best friends"). I remember 7 accounts of women in footwear and 5 of them were hiking boots, which bothered me (see my previous post). Meh.

These are my hiking boots. They are not clean, nor particularly comfortable, unless I am actually hiking. They are stiff, to prevent my ankles from rolling. The thick soles help keep my feet from feeling rocks. They are clunky.

The author has one woman slipping on hiking boots before putting her feet up to relax, and one is wearing hiking boots with yoga pants (!) while studying. Um, no. So ridiculous.

It‘s bugging me SO MUCH.

Been reading about ketogenic diets for 7 months now. The science seems good, and in between my work-related science papers, I am learning more about this diet. So then I started one. Within a couple of days my asthma symptoms were gone! That alone is worth it, but I am hoping for fat loss, too. This book is a little extreme, compared to some other resources. A good start, nonetheless.

Txdmarie I have thought about doing this but the thought of losing my pasta scares me. I‘m Italian so pasta is life. Lol. I‘ve also heard that you get sluggish the first few days. Is that true? 6y
See All 24 Comments
susanw Been doing this for about 18 months. And have never felt better. I never feel bloated. Eating this way really fixes a lot of problems caused by inflammation in the body. At first you do miss the carbs but pretty shortly after it goes away. The added fat is totally satisfying. 6y
AngelErin I did keto and lost 97 lbs! I still eat low carb high protein and I feel great. It does fix a lot of issues. 6y
No_One @Aseleener wow! That is quite an achievement! Congrats! 🙂 and thank you! 6y
No_One @Txdmarie yes, I‘ll be honest, I had a few days of awful headaches, cloudy head and sluggishness. But it does not last! Everyone is different but they say it takes approx 3 days to become ketogenic. I also love pasta, but the saving grace of this diet is that it is high fat. That makes a huge difference in satiety. 6y
No_One @susanw that is very encouraging! Yes, besides treating asthma and fat loss I want to do what I can to reduce inflammation, which leads to all kinds of disease states. Cancer is my biggest fear. 🙁 6y
No_One @AngelErin thank you! I am happy to hear of people‘s positive experiences. It helps! 6y
Txdmarie @No_One maybe if I started on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday by Monday when I go back to work it wouldn‘t be so bad 6y
AngelErin @No_One I think it‘s great! Good luck to you! 😀😀 6y
No_One @Txdmarie it takes a couple days before you feel bad.... maybe start on a Wed or Thurs? Good luck!! 6y
No_One @AngelErin 👍🏼 I also meant to say that 97 lbs is a big deal! I‘m in awe! 🙂 6y
Aseleener @Txdmarie It's caused by an imbalance in electrolytes, so the best thing to do is drink beef broth or an electrolyte drink like Propel. It helps a lot. 6y
Txdmarie Will keep both those in mind @Aseleener and @No_One Thank you! 6y
minkyb Great discussion. 6y
AngelErin @No_One Thank you! Keto combined with getting out of a crappy marriage really helped. 😂😂 Let me know if you ever have any keto questions. ♥️ 6y
No_One @AngelErin oh! 😂 well, congrats on both fronts! Both big changes, and those changes don‘t come easy! Absolutely, I will ask for advice if I need it. Thank you!! 🌷🌻🌹😀 6y
CherryPie I've been on and off Keto for 25 years (neuro probs). I no longer go off it. Check out reddit and youtube for hours more fun (and arguments). 😀 6y
No_One @CherryPie that is quite the testimonial! Amazing. I hope you are well all the time now. 😊 I have seen some of the discussion on reddit and Youtube and you're right! Lots of opinions and good/bad resources out there! 😄 6y
CherryPie I am well. Thank you! It used to be that we were supposed to transition back to some DASH-ish type diet. Not anymore (thank goodness). BTW my username has nothing to do with sugar; it's my fave color and cat's name. 😹 6y
No_One @CherryPie hahaha!! I did notice your username and then I thought about cherry pie and cherry cheesecake. 😄. No judgement, even if it was your name! That‘s cute.... a cat named pie? 😄 6y
CherryPie Named after the horses in National Velvet and International Velvet. I prefer salty flavors. 🐴👍 I like Ketoconnect on IG and youtube. Although they don't do a medical keto, they're into fitness. 6y
No_One @CherryPie Awesome! I will check out Ketoconnect. 😊 thanks again! 6y

This was our second delivered lunch in Toulouse! Quite fancy, with metal cutlery, and always.... fancy dessert. Beats a Subway platter! (Although now I am craving some simpler food). Last day in Toulouse, heading home tomorrow. Didn‘t read much at all this week, due to business meetings and jetlag. 😕🍷🍰😴

niha923 Looks very delicious!! 😍 6y

Merry Christmas to me!

I prefer paper books, but sometimes there are those books that I don‘t really want to buy as paper, or don‘t seem worth the $20 when I could spend $2, and are not at all suitable for audio. So I decided to buy myself a Kindle. Not the Paperwhite, just the cheap one that will do the trick. Super-portable, too! #Kindle 🎄🎁📚

Notafraidofwords I got the super cheap one and love it. 6y
AceOnRoam Merry Christmas, nice present for yourself 🎄 6y

No_One @AceOnRoam thanks! I always get myself a Christmas gift. 😉 6y
AceOnRoam It's a great idea. At least you always get what you want that way 😊👍 6y
AceOnRoam I may do it myself too 😉 6y
jpmcwisemorgan I have this one and bought one for a friend so she can test drive it before she spends money on one of the more expensive ones. I got it on Black Friday so it was 40% off! 6y
eanderson I have a New Year‘s resolution to use my kindle more and buy less paperback. I‘m a physical book type person but my piles of books are out of control!!! Enjoy your awesome new Kindle!!!! 6y
Melli I want to get one but the cheaper one doesn‘t have a light for night reading right. 6y
dariazeoli Enjoy! I‘m a multi-medium reader but I do love my Paperwhite ❤️ 6y
Leigh0906 Enjoy!! I got the super cheap one for on the go reading- it‘s always charged and stashed in my purse just in case! 6y
[DELETED] 3803335244 Very nice! 6y
Christine11 I prefer paper books too but I recently got the more basic kindle as well and it has been so handy for on the go ! Enjoy 😊 6y
batsy Yeah, that's exactly my rationale when I turn to Kindle books and epubs. Nothing beats a physical book but nothing beats a library of ebooks in one device for mobility and back-up reading, and when you don't necessarily want to fork out more for physical copies 😊 Enjoy it! 6y
minkyb Congrats! 6y
Pamwurtzler Congrats on your purchase! I read almost exclusively on kindle & love it! 6y
No_One @AceOnRoam you should!! 👍🏼 6y
No_One @jpmcwisemorgan oooooh! Nice!! I wish I had thought about it on Black Friday! 😃👍🏼 6y
No_One @eanderson thank you! My piles are out of control, too, but I Iove my paper books! It will be a slow transition, I think. 🙂 6y
No_One @Melli no, there is no backlight. But I don‘t enjoy reading in the dark (it‘s hard on my eyes) so that was okay for me. 🙂 6y
No_One @dariazeoli thank you! If I love this one and use it a lot maybe eventually I will get a Paperwhite! 🙂 6y
No_One @Leigh0906 I am pleasantly surprised at how small it is! 💙. I used to have a Kobo, which developed charging problems, and it was heavy and bulky so I never used it. 6y
No_One @ForeverNerdy thank you! 🙂 6y
No_One @Christine11 perfect! This is my hope, too! 6y
No_One @batsy thank you! I‘m excited to buy my first Kindle book. 🙂 6y
No_One @minkyb thank you! 🙂 6y
No_One @Pamwurtzler thank you! Maybe I will get there one day, too. 🙂 6y
jpmcwisemorgan If you decide to upgrade or get a different Amazon device, the put them on sale as much as 40% off a few times a year usually. That‘s how I ended up with more than one! 6y
No_One @jpmcwisemorgan good to know! This one was only $80 CAD so I didn‘t break the bank. Kind of an impulse buy, though! Oh well, there are worse impulse buys..... 😁 6y
jpmcwisemorgan It‘s not a bad impulse buy at all! 6y
Bookdragon69 Whatever you do, don‘t sign up for kindle daily deal, bookbubs or early bird books!! You will find your kindle filling up fast and your tbr list getting very long. 😉 6y

emmaturi Cool! I nearly made it but didn't read any books by authors beginning with X, U and Y! 6y
No_One @emmaturi oh no, does it have to be authors‘ names? Those would be hard! Z would be hard! I hope it‘s okay if I do book titles first. Maybe 2019 can be author names..... 😉. Anyway, that is fantastic progress! I hope to do as well. 🙂 6y

#7GoodThings

1. “Shoe Dog” by Phil Knight. Exceptional in every way.
2. Ooooh, probably Michael McDowell.
3. “The Third Chimpanzee” by Jared Diamond. Finally! Thank goodness for audiobooks!
4. I started the John Cardinal books by Giles Blunt. 💙
5. “The Woman in Cabin 10”. The cover was the best part of that book. 😕
6. “The Elementals” by Michael McDowell
7. “Summit” by Harry Farthing

I had never known about this Adidas/ Puma rivalry! The companies were owned by two rival brothers who bitterly hated each other. It was mentioned in 'Shoe Dog' so I had to stop and read up on it.

http://fortune.com/2013/03/22/the-hatred-and-bitterness-behind-two-of-the-worlds...

Vexingcircumstance I don't like either of those brands, so I definitely didn't know anything about them. I had a friend on high school obsessed with Adidas though and it wouldn't shock if she knew the whole story. She was type to really know all about the things she liked. 6y
