This looks intriguing! Need more WWI era literature!

Just_reading Agree! I wonder why there are so much fewer WWI novels than WWII? 8mo
R.L.Walker @Just_reading I think because WWII is more romanticized. My students even prefer. I think it's because the good vs bad guy is hard to figure out in WWI. It led to WWII so we should read more about it. 8mo

Interesting WW2 story intermingled with Cuba and 9/11. I enjoyed learning about those who were able to flee Germany, yet not all on the boats were lucky. Has relevant ties to modern problems too.
I found the stories of the 2 girls confusing at times but that might have been the point and had some dark thoughts moments.

One of the best things I like to do is set reading and writing goals with my students. It was great to beat my own challenge. #teachbydoing
Challenge accepted and exceeded! I know it's not 100 or more, but teaching, writing, and wedding planning took up a lot of reading time this year. :)

cassiopia That's ok. I just started reading again this year (in August to be exact)and I've only read 10 books. I think reading is about the journey, not the destination. I'm setting a goal of 100 for 2019. I hope I can reach it with a move coming up. 11mo

I was excited to read about a female aviator since my husband is a pilot. However, there was little in this book related to planes or flying. At best it was a bad romance novel that taught me a bit about bush life in Africa.

smilingshelves You should read Beryl's autobiography! It was so much better, and talked a lot more about flying. 11mo
R.L.Walker @smilingshelves thank you! I've read The Aviator's Wife which was better. I will add this one. It sounds like she had an interesting life, sadly Circling the Sun gave me a negative impression of Beryl. Perhaps this book will help redeem her character. She had great accomplishments, it is sad not to know more about those. 11mo
Kaye I thought parts of the book were ok, but I‘m with you. Leave out the Romance stuff. Ruins a perfectly good book. 11mo

Wow! This book was amazing! Seriously had me crying. Love how you didn't find out which sister til the end! The older lady reminded me of my grandma. This book really helped you understand how awful living in occupied France was during WW2.

Buechersuechtling This one is on my sub, too. At first I was really excited because I liked “Magic Hour” very much. Now I doubt my enthusiasm a bit as I read it‘s about World War 2. I‘m not so much into books with that topic. 🤷🏽‍♀️ But your reviews sounds as it‘s worth a read anyway. I‘m curious. Maybe you will catch what I think about it when I beginn reading – which still might take a while. 11mo
