Phew... I stayed up late on Friday at Brownie camp and got so close to finishing. Managed to complete this one yesterday and I‘m glad I sat on it for a day before writing a brief review. A home invasion that is maybe to prevent the end of the 🌎 is the general, no spoilers plot. I loved it and it was so well written, very tense read. I was not a fan of the ending initially, but upon reflection, I think it was perfect. Unsatisfying yes, but right.

So like Netflix, when choosing a kobo book, I tend to get bogged down and then 45 minutes have passed and I haven‘t picked a book. So I have been asking my daughter to pick a letter, any letter. Her second choice was F, and this was the first title - which I then realized I also owned in print 🤦‍♀️

Upside is, so far it is excellent, and I just realized I listened to an episode of Small Town Murder about this case AND it removes 2 hoard books!

On my way to Brownie camp in the middle of a winter snowstorm. I am craaaaanky but my little brownie is super happy that I am here so that counts for a lot.

Book talk though, I have been super uncomfortable reading this since the first few pages and it‘s ramping up. I am really enjoying this so far. What a tense read! I think I like it more than A Head Full of Ghosts 😬

Bookwormjillk Good luck! I hope you get some reading time in! 3d
Reggie I liked this book a lot. I‘m a sucker for his writing and loved the beginning of this book as Wen is running her feet through the grass like a scythe looking for grasshoppers. 3d

I consider this a success because it is a book removed from my kobo hoard. I think the best way to describe this book is melodrama. Police officer Mark Cain and his wife help a neighbour after her house is destroyed in a fire. I‘m not going to go too far into a description because anything further will give a lot of the not thrilling plot away. I was disappointed ☹️

Captain Marvel wishes you all a very happy Halloween, all the way from very frosty Alberta.

Working on books 3 (The Institute) and 4(The Heiresses), consider Half-Blood Blues as the next up. Any thoughts on this title? The first chapter didn‘t blow my mind 🤷🏼‍♀️

This book has been sitting sadly on the shelf for a while. Best of 2011 🤦‍♀️

A member of a reclusive family who lives in the mountains starts up a friendship with a teenager from town. Meanwhile the teenagers little sister starts up a friendship with the lady who owns the antique shop. I don‘t know where this is going but trigger warnings for child sexual abuse early on.

This was inspired by a real family from Nova Scotia (beware googling)

CoverToCoverGirl I thought it was well written - a disturbing but good read.. the true story version has been on my shelf for awhile just can‘t bring myself to read it yet (edited) 2w

Awww my Whiskers ❤️the bad news is that I am sick, I feel like garbage. The good news is that means reading time! I really enjoyed this one, I would have enjoyed it more had I not completed it starting at 4:30 this morning.

It was great, starts with a bang and really kept me guessing. There were a couple of good surprises and boy did I like the end.

Are you ready for this book friends... I liked the movie more than the book.

I liked the book and I think the way the Meg gets out was better but overall, give me Jason Statham any day. I much preferred the characters in the movie (not all) and I am so grateful that they changed things up.

I surrender my book lover credentials and I am sorry 😥😰

3/4 worth of boring with a decent ending. Not sure if was worth the struggle to finish but I did think it was a solid final push. If this book was a cat, I would obviously adopt it but it would not be my favourite.

The thing about the dirt cheap ebooks it is so hard to say no to, is that they might not be great. Maybe it‘s too early, maybe your instincts are right 🤷‍♀️ I have been on a real library kick lately and not reading my mountains of owned books so I am on a self imposed “kobo reading in bed only” rule. I am a terribly inconsistent user of my ereader.

The other day, I was teaching a gender studies class-nine teenage girls all anxious to say the right thing, their desks in a circle-and my students and I were talking about mothers. We were talking about the impossible positions they are placed in, the ways in which they are our models; we were talking about what little space moms have to also need and also want.

It‘s completely different but that lovely type of post apocalyptic fiction that makes you think “Shit, that‘s probably not far off.
