I've been waiting ages to read this, I hope it's as good as I've been told!
I was going to buy it a few months back, but held off as one of the members in my #bookswap club had this as their pick, and it arrived through my letterbox yesterday.
Super excited to start this...

I'm picking this one up again. I read this a few years back, and it took me a couple of months to work through. I fully expect to find the same thing this time.
Physics fascinates me, I love listening to people talk about some of the big issues, but I have to ease myself in as I find some of it so overwhelming!

Well, it's still a messed up book, but I'm still as fascinated by Iain Banks' writing as ever.

Just 4 hours left to complete for this #24in48 #readathon. I might go with another #audiobook but I need brain fuel, so I'm off to have some dinner before I make my final book choice for this weekend. ..

I needed some a more passive approach to this #readathon to give my eyes a bit of a rest, so I've opted for this messed up and insane novel by Ian Banks.
I've read it before, so I know what to expect, but it's still very out there...

It's tatty book time again!

I saw this in a charity shop and had to have it. Aliens was an amazing movie, and Ripley is one of the silver screen's biggest badasses. When I was younger, all the action heroes were men until Ripley came along. Sigourney Weaver is EPIC in this role, so I had to get this book.

Yes, this is a Stephen King novel about time travel, the JFK assassination, and the butterfly effect. However, it also contains one of the most beautiful love stories I've ever read. The romance between Jake and Sadie is pure, beautiful, one for the ages.
Admittedly, I don't read #romance novels. I'm the eye-roller, the one who dislikes all things smushy, but Jake and Sadie make my heart ache.

A murder mystery. A surreal fantasy. The story of a thoroughly dysfunctional family. A love story. A battle between good and evil. I could go on!
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It really could have done with a better proof reader as there are a number of spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors, but they don't detract from this strange and enthralling book.

As a woman who has lived with mental health issues since her early teens (and now a History degree), I've always been interested in the history of women's mental health and the 'treatments' forced upon them.
This book has been on my TBR shelf for over a year (along with Hysteria by Andrew Scull & Mad, Bad, and Sad by Lisa Appignanesi) until I felt the time was right for me to really dive into the subject. Now is that time.

Where do I start?...
This book details the torture of the Likens sisters, and murder of Sylvia Likens, at the hands of Gertrude Baniszewski and her children and other youths.
The subject matter is obviously very grim, but one of the major issues I have with this book is that lengthy conversations between Gertrude and Sylvia are detailed, yet Sylvia died and Gertrude never confessed to most of her crimes. So how does the author know what was said?

I've been away from Litsy for four weeks, but that hasn't stopped me from reading (like anything could!!).
Highlights were Becoming by Michelle Obama, and Mr Mercedes by Stephen King.
Low points were Torture Mom by Ryan Green, and Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick.

I also read a bunch of comics, and I'm working my way through the Walking Dead series so I can compare them with the increasingly rubbish TV show!

One of the most powerful (no pun intended) books I've read in quite some time. It made me sad, angry, happy, heartbroken...
The story of an alternative world where women suddenly have the power, and what happens. To see the violence so often perpetrated against women turned on men kinda crushed me. It made the reality of today's gender politics and our fight for equality even more apparent. It left me feeling so drained that I cried.

I really enjoyed this book! Its been quite a few years since I've read this, perhaps more than a decade, so I thought I'd opt for the audiobook to get a different experience.
The stories are really enjoyable, and really varied; horror, sci-fi, a Sherlock Holmes story, notes from the author, its a mixed bunch, but well worth the nearly 27 hours of listening time!

This was... ok. I guess I liked what for me was a new take on Sabrina, but I wasn't overly struck by the artwork nor the story.
In volume 1, we learn about Sabrina's family, and how she came to live with her aunts. It's a whole bunch darker than the goofy show you remember from your childhood, that's for sure!
I'd probably pick up the following volumes, but they probably won't be the first thing I pick off the shelf.

I truly enjoyed this fun, kooky novel. Having seen True Blood, I knew what I was letting myself in for, and wasn't disappointed.
Sookie is a blond waitress from Bon Temps, who just also happens to be telepathic. Her world gets even weirder when a vampire walks into her bar.
It's not a heavy read, it fun, maybe not for ppl who are not fans of kinky business, but it was right up my street.

Mehso-so

This book is the story of a young girl who discovers that her family tree is far more unusual than she ever imagined, and what horrors and responsibilities come with that.
For me, it reads like an author's debut novel (I no idea if it is or not) where she had the crux of a great idea but not necessarily the detail to back it up. The characters lack depth, and everything feels too easy to resolve, but overall it wasn't bad. 3/5

For the first time in years, I read a book in one sitting. And it was this book.
I loved it, for several reasons. One was the mostly light-hearted first person narrative, but the main reason was that it was relatable. As a girl that's been fat all my life, as a girl who has even been too scared to do certain things because of how I look and how I thought I'd reflect on others, I totally understood Willowdean.

I really enjoyed this book. There's something very inspirational about a woman who decides that she needs to reclaim her life, and a sense of who she is. I can relate to that.
The book is a nice mix of details about her experiences on the PCT, and recollections of her family, the death of her mother, her marriage, and the events that led her to hike 100s of miles alone. Solid 4/5 from me.

A heartbreaking look into the lives of the women who were found murdered in Long Island.
Often, when we read about the victims of a killer, they're just names. They're grouped together by defining features or, as in this case, how they made a living.
In this book, we learn about some of these women in more detail, and Kolker handles them with care (even if I personally prefer the term sex-worker). 5/5

Bad, bad, bad!
A friend loaned me this book, telling me that I'd think it was great. Boy, was she ever wrong!
Terrible dialogue, poorly written, I had to force myself to get to the end. The 'shocking twist' was no surprise at all, and I just couldn't bring myself to care about such an annoying lead character, or any of the supporting characters (Luke wasn't terrible, to be fair).
I *definitely* won't be continuing the series.
