I'm currently writing my first official book review after almost a year of radio silence. I want to get more into Litsy, Tumblr (booklr), and Instagram (bookstagram). Currently, Instagram is my main book blog platform. Do you guys have any ideas on how I can utilize all three in posting my review?

Almost two months in and I'm still reading this beast of a book. It's a fantastic book so far but I always take a long time to finish Stephen King books. I've been able to read other books though so there's that!

I almost spoiled a part of this book for one of my Starbucks customers! I would have cried but my epic acting skills made him believe that I was just joking.

Although I don't support the negativity towards sharks, I enjoyed this book. I have a fear of deep water and this fed off of that, making me feel nervous. Things didn't feel wrapped up and the characters seemed randomly placed. I definitely want to watch the movie as well and compare.

Hello friends,

I finally finished A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket and it was SO GOOD! I started reading it when I was in elementary school but never finished it. I started the series in January as a part of my bookclub‘s “Firsts” challenge as my first series of the year. The books were a little repetitive but I enjoyed most of the characters and the author‘s way of writing. If you haven‘t read this series then I recommend you do.

Pickpick

Van Gogh: The Life by Steven Naifeh was captivating, detailed, and emotional. The author was able to chronicle the tragic life and death of Vincent Van Gogh in a way the evoked strong emotions and the ability to envision scenes from his life. Van Gogh‘s life was filled with grief and mental illness that no one understood and condemned him for. I also enjoyed the discussion at the end of the novel where they debated suicide vs accidental death.

The Romanovs were the ruling dynasty of Russia for over 300 years. The Romanovs by Montefiore discusses the rise, the scandals, the successes, the failures, and the fall of the powerful dynasty in an interesting and captivating way. I have always been obsessed with the Romanovs (esp. the last imperial family) so I really enjoyed this book. I gave it five stars on Goodreads! ✨

Why is it taking me so long to get through this book?! I wanted to finish this book before the month ended but I don't think that's gonna happen. I'm less than 100 pages in. I have a lot of other books that I want to read too that will be due to the library soon. Should I DNF this book? Or keep working at it? Maybe tomorrow I can get a good chunk read. I work both jobs today so idk if I'll get a lot of reading done, sadly.

Kaye I read this back when it first came out and thought it was a terrific book. It‘s a huge one, though, so if it‘s still not holding your interest or you have others you need or want to read, maybe you can give it a try again later. Not every book is for everybody. Happy reading, whatever you choose. 6y

I just finished The Dead Girls of Hysteria Hall by Katie Alender! Honestly, I loved this book! Sure, the main character had some YA characteristics that I didn't like but it didn't overwhelm the book nor majorly influence my opinion. The characters were pretty cool... I wish some of the side characters had more development, same with the history of the institution.

I gave this book 4.5 stars out of 5. I recommend this book!

UPDATE:

I am still on the first book of my October challenge. I'm a little disappointed because I was hoping to, at least, be on the second book of my challenge. I've just been working a lot and going to bed early. Oh well, what can ya do?

I'm really getting into this book though! I'm not a fan of YA characters and Delia exhibits some of those characteristics that I don't like but that doesn't take too much away from the book.

Happy reading!

My books were chosen by another member of my bookclub:

1. Pick an orange book: The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough
Alternative to above, 3. Pick a book about killer animals: Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
7. Pick a book about a ghost - The Dead Girls of Hysteria Hall by Katie Alender
10. Pick a thriller - Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes

Happy reading!

Pickpick

I gave The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas five (5) stars out of five (5). Let me start by saying: I am white. I do not understand what it is like to face racism and oppression. I cannot relate to the people in this book because I do not face the injustices that they face on a daily basis. With that said, I found this book very eye opening. This book is so relevant and should be required reading. I recommend this book forever and always. Please read

I gave Final Girls by Riley Sager three (3) stars out of five (5). I had high hopes for this book and I was slightly disappointed. It had a slow start and the ending was a bit of a let down. I'm not too sure what else to say about the book. Too much hype for this book. Toward the end of the book, it got interesting. But, sadly, before and after were a let down.

I gave Beartown by Fredrik Backman four (4) stars out of five (5). TRIGGER WARNING: RAPE AND THOUGHTS OF SUICIDE. This book deals with some difficult topics. The book had a slow beginning which put me off a little but overall, I enjoyed this book. The emotions were running high from happiness to anger to sadness and to utter disbelief. Backman has blown me away once again. I recommend this book!

I gave One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus four (4) stars out of five (5). I love how this book is a mix of the Breakfast Club and PLL but also uniquely its own. The book presented a very good mystery. Who killed Simon? One drawback was that I was able to guess who the killer was halfway through the book but luckily, there was more than met the eye! Police work wasn't great, possibly illegal. Overall, the book was amazing and I recommend it!

sirius.books @Unphilosophize it was very intense! I was slightly surprised but I expected a little based on mainstream media's discussion on it. I'm thinking of watching the series too. 7y
Unphilosophize I've watched the first few episodes so far (I've been busy doing a M*A*S*H rewatch right now) but it's been really good so far. Pretty disturbing. When I was reading the flashback scenes in the books I found that they had a PTSD feel to them and they definitely do in the show. It's a pretty close adaptation 7y

I have See Me by Nicholas Sparks five (5) stars out of five (5). I LOVE NICHOLAS SPARKS. This book was supposed to be for the challenge category: genre I like the least. I gave Journey to Munich by Jacqueline Winspear three (3) stars out of five (5). I listened to the audiobook version of the book and I do not believe that this hindered the book in any way. However, I do not believe this book is intended as a stand-alone book. I feel that the reader needs more exposure to Maisie Dobbs in order to get real enjoyment and understanding from this book because the book felt anticlimactic most of the time.

I deviated a little from my July challenge but I gave Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo four (4) stars out of five (5). It was really slow at work the other day so I decided to read a book. I enjoyed this book because I enjoy cleaning my house and keeping things tidy. However, the way she speaks about tidying and the inanimate objects is a little strange. This could be due to different cultures so I'm not judging too much.

I gave The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson three (3) stars out of five (5) stars. I think I had higher expectations of the book before reading it and once I did read the book, it didn't live up to those expectations. Regardless, I enjoyed the topic of good and evil. I do not think I would recommend this book, honestly. I feel as though reading the book is more of an expectation.

Up next is my first audiobook!

I gave Notes from No Man's Land by Eula Biss five (5) stars out of five (5). I found her approach towards racial issues in America unique due to her diverse background. These essays address issues that are still relevant in today's society. I completely devoured this book and I highly recommend it.

Up next is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I thought the story would be longer due to the size of my library book but turns out another story was included.

I gave The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald four (4) stars out of five (5). I really enjoyed this book and wish that I had read it in college. I wish that I had more to say on this book but I feel as though I could not do it justice without completely understanding.

Pickpick

I gave The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne four (4) out of five (5) stars. Overall, this book chronicled the life of Hester Prynne, a woman publicly shamed for adultery and forced to where the letter 'A' on her bosom for all her days. The writing style did not hinder my ability to read this book nor did it stop me from enjoying the story. I was shocked to see that the majority of the reviews on Goodreads were negative. I recommend this book.

I gave this book four (4) stars out of five (5). I love a good mystery book and this book did not disappoint. I had a problem with the main character's choices concerning her own legal issues and other issues. The ending wasn't that satisfactory. 11/22/63 by Stephen King was amazing! Sure, it took me ages to read but that was through no fault of King or his novel. At some points, I felt disconnected from the characters but overall, Epping/Amberson was a great character as were the others. This book explores time-travel, the Butterfly Effect, JFK conspiracy theories, and time differences in a way that is thought-provoking and interesting. Once again, Stephen King has created a masterpiece.
