Stories of the Raksura
Stories of the Raksura: The Falling World | Martha Wells
3 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
In "The Falling World," Jade, sister queen of the Indigo Cloud Court, has traveled with Chime and Balm to another Raksuran court. When she fails to return, her consort, Moon, along with Stone and a party of warriors and hunters, must track them down. Finding them turns out to be the easy part; freeing them from an ancient trap hidden in the depths of the Reaches is much more difficult.

Volume One: Two novellas, two short stories.

readinginthedark Do they have the same setting as any of her other works, or are they totally separate? 5y
esurient "The Falling World" -- Domestic business goes awry. Set shortly after Book 3. Loved the story, rich with lush detail (tree people!!); but some plot details from Book 3 seem to have reversed themselves, which seems poorly done. 5y
esurient "The Tale of Indigo and Cloud" -- Predates the trilogy. Includes fledgling Stone! Glorious, fraught Raskura politics. Yum. My favorite of the bunch. 5y

esurient "The Forest Boy" -- ss -- Predates the trilogy. Moon as a fledgling; very sad. 5y
esurient "Adaptation" -- ss -- Set just before Book 1; centers on Chime. Abrupt ending, but shades some details. 5y
esurient @readinginthedark I believe separate nearly totally? But I haven't read all of Well's works. I know of two ss set in the Raskura world that do not contain Raskura characters; neither are in this volume. 5y
readinginthedark 🤔 Okay. I haven't read any of hers yet, and I get frustrated when the author isn't clear about connected characters or settings and they reveal something I haven't read yet. That's why I asked! 5y
esurient @readinginthedark I see. I would encourage reading the Raskura works in publication order. This particular collection holds character spoilers and also backstory for the original trilogy, but no spoilers for any of Wells' other works. 5y
esurient One of these days, I really will spell 'Raksura' correctly. 5y

Volume One: "The Tale of Indigo and Cloud."

This entire story is a refrain of the anchor that is soothingly, civilized cups of tea.
