I read less than half the books I read for January (17) but the books averaged 80 pages more per book than those read in January. In other words, I read some chunksters in February!!

Ignore the pages read each day. I read every day. I just sometimes forget to post my status. ☺️

This month was rough, as we had to say goodbye to Millie the rescue beagle and losing her just sucks. Grateful for books as always, for providing escape when the world is worlding. #februarystats

I would rather read a book with terrible writing but a good story. The content is more important to me than perfect spelling or grammar. As long as I can follow the story, I‘m good!

I have read both types. Several times. And I have powered through to the end on both types. Several times.

And I find myself wishing I had bailed on the terrible stories more often. 😅 So, I‘d rather read a good story, but terrible writing.

#SundayFunday I hope you all have a nice, relaxing Sunday, and don‘t forget to tag me in your posts!

TreenaReads Terrible story/good writing 8h
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Agreed. If you are enjoying the premise or care for the characters - bad writing can be (somewhat) overlooked. 8h
konlitsy I've read many stories with similar plots, but what truly sets them apart is the writing style. For me, how a story is written matters more than the story itself. The author's unique style, tone, and language bring the narrative to life and make it engaging. This is why I value the writing process more than the plot itself. 5h

#JoysFriday @DebinHawaii (thanks for the tag; you too, @Eggs! 💚🩶💚)

1. After having a filling that partially fell out of my molar back in 1986 ... two root canals, an implant, an implant removal because the 1st one was done incorrectly ... I finally had a new-and-improved implant done this week. So much over one stupid-ass tooth.

This is what I‘ve got left to read for #wpnf25 - do you think I‘ll make it before the Fiction longlist on Tuesday?🤦‍♀️

Oh, plus Raising Hare on audio, due in 10 days. I purchased the top 3 after trying a sample first on digital. I‘m actually listening to Wild Sea on audio as it appeared on Everand in the last few days.

I‘ve read 7 and paused on Embers of the Hands for now as it just wasn‘t holding my attention. How is everyone else getting on?

ChaoticMissAdventures How do you like Everand? I used them before they changed to how many books you can listen to, I was going to sign up again for WP books but it looks like I can only get 3 a month? 2d

squirrelbrain I really like it @ChaoticMissAdventures - but they haven‘t changed the subscription here yet, like in the US. Im not sure what I‘ll do when it does get changed, whether I‘ll stick with it or not. It‘s really useful for books that are difficult to get hold of in the UK, particularly for ToB which is quite US-centric. 2d
squirrelbrain I might have been able to manage it (kidding! 🤣) if I didn‘t have to work the weekend. @trishb @leahbergen 2d
BarbaraBB I am panicking just by looking at that stack 😀. I feel the same though, have been getting wild about the International Booker longlist, ordered a lot of them, knowing that the WP fiction list is being announced as well. As if I haven‘t enough unread books already! 2d
Jas16 You are amazing! I have read one and have a few on hold at the library but I know I will want to focus more on the Women‘s Prize. 2d
ChaoticMissAdventures @squirrelbrain yes, I used it for things where I was 700th in line at the library. But here the subscription seems almost useless. $12 to rent one book or $16 to rent 3. And they say there are "free" books but I have not found a single one from my TBR to be free, not even classics. I hope you get to keep your subscription! 2d
squirrelbrain That sounds utterly useless! 🤷‍♀️@ChaoticMissAdventures 2d
squirrelbrain @BarbaraBB @jas16 - you see, I‘m definitely *not* reading the NF longlist this year. 🤦‍♀️ 2d
Ruthiella @TrishB I wouldn‘t bet against @squirrelbrain either! 😂 2d

I've written a book still in publishing phase and I would definitely choose the main character, Christine. As you other authors should know, sometimes your characters surprise you with a quirky twist that is unique to them that even you (the author) don't really understand. I'd like to sit down with her and just get to know her.
Oh, and if your name is Christine, I like your name!!😊

I‘ve seen 74 academy award winners. My husband and my children are all movie nuts! I‘ve even seen Wings, the first best picture winner, because I took a class with Roger Ebert on Academy Award winners and he showed it. Amiable @Lcsmcat @AmyG As a former newspaper journalist, I‘ve been holding on in solidarity with the WaPo reporters who are trying to do their jobs. Bezos doesn‘t make his fortune with WaPo. It‘s just a tax write-off for him. When subscriptions plummet, it‘s the newsroom staff that suffers with layoffs. I‘ve been there, done that. But Bezos‘ bullsh!t today with the op-ed directive crossed the line for me. I can‘t do it anymore. 🤬 4d
Deblovestoread Just finished downloading all my books today. Bozos will not longer get any $$ from me. Just a drop in the bucket but going to put my money where my mouth is. Look forward to your post about your new kobo. 4d
Lcsmcat @Amiable I didn‘t drop my subscription lightly, but editorial decisions made it clear where his loyalty lay, and it wasn‘t with the truth. Very sad, and I hope some new sources for news will emerge and employee those dedicated journalists. 4d
Amiable @Deblovestoread That‘s how I feel. Some of my coworkers have rolled their eyes for several years at my insistence on boycotting certain companies—basically with the attitude of “what difference does your single purchase make?” I say it‘s one of the things I‘m able to control, and it makes me feel better to make those choices. 4d
Lcsmcat @Amiable @Deblovestoread Exactly. My purchases might be a drop in the bucket, but if we all get together, they‘re not. And I‘m doing something. Fascists and other dictators thrive when good people feel helpless. 4d
DogMomIrene @Lcsmcat @catiewithac I‘ve had my Kobo Libra Color for months now. Maybe a year. Love it. I bought the stylus, but I never use it. I haven‘t used the notating/journaling features. If I were a student, I could see using them. But highlighting works for me. I do miss the Kindle option to capture highlights in shareable graphics. That‘s convenient. But I‘ll type future quotes to share from Kobo. 3d
Lcsmcat @DogMomIrene Good to know! I‘ve read on the Kobo app but this will be my first device. 3d
rwmg @DogMomIrene Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but to share highlights from my Kobo, I open the Kobo app on my tablet then screenshot the page and crop it down as necessary. Then send/post it like any other image. (edited) 3d
DogMomIrene @rwmg I see how that would work. It‘s not really as aesthetically pleasing as I would prefer. That‘s what I think the Kindle app does better. When I select a highlight, I‘m given a few choices for how I‘d like it to look. “Kindle Quotes” with different colored backgrounds, fonts, and it always includes title & author. I‘m a picky pants about aesthetics, especially readability, so this is the one feature I miss when I‘m using my Kobo. 3d

#weirdwordwednesday #weirdwords @CBee

After perusing all of the Ad Hominem attacks by this country's #ldf last week, I just can't do his fallacies anymore--at least for now.

Something maybe more fun? How about some allusions!?! I love learning/relearning these and hope to bring a new/not new one to you each week. 🤩

CBee Whatever you want to post is good with me ♥️ 4d

I think you all know why!

Ruthiella Murderbot! It sounds weird maybe, but these books do give a good feeling at the end. And Murderbot is all about resisting evil. 4d
Balibee146 The original Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix - Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen. 4d
Tove_Reads @Ruthiella Need to check that out. Does not sound familiar! 4d

Tove_Reads @Balibee146 Never heard of this trilogy! 4d
Bookwomble @Ruthiella I'll second Murderbot - resisting the system and being cherished by found family. Also, most things by your namesake, Tove Jansson, either her Moomin books or her adult books. 4d
lil1inblue I often find comfort in poetry. Louise Gluck and Mary Oliver are excellent. I recommend Gluck's The Wild Iris and Oliver's Devotions in particular! 4d
Ruthiella The first book is 4d
rachaich Tove janson is gorgeous prose.
I also appreciated Anne Tyler and Elizabeth Strout as portrayals of small town life and community.
Then there's the older children's classics like Anne or Little House or Similar.

shortsarahrose Agree with @lil1inblue about poetry. Despite tackling some tough topics, I found this collection quite hopeful as well 4d
Tove_Reads @Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I‘ve heard many say good things about that one! 3d
