The Oxford Book of Gothic Tales | Chris Baldick
2 posts | 3 read | 5 to read
A fresh contemporary look for the first anthology to trace the strength and diversity of Gothic fiction from its origins in the eighteenth century, with authors as diverse as Edgar Allan Poe, Thomas Hardy, Jorge Luis Borges, and Angela Carter.

Here I go with the collections again & this time it‘s this really rather unique book. The tales in this span from 1773 until 1991 & each one is stranger than the next. ‘Secret Observations on the Goat-Girl‘ is seriously unsettling. It‘s not a traditional tale but chilled me with it‘s odd subject. Poe, Nesbit, Conan Doyle, Hardy & Lovecraft happily feature as well. Some of the older works are hard to read but in my opinion it‘s worth the effort.
