Jane Austen bleibt zum Frühstück: Roman | Manuela Inusa
12 posts | 3 read | 2 to read

The only Jane Austen book I read was “Pride and Prejudiceâ€. I made an effort with “Emma†but bailed it quickly. So you see that I have no deep Jane Austen experience and that I am not familiar with the characters she imagined. All the more I was very surprised about the connection between the 2015 characters and those fictional ones of the 18th century.
For other readers it might have been obvious, for me it wasn‘t and I really liked that idea.

You will guess that this is no “Pick†for the originality of the story but because the plot is exactly what you expect when you decide to read this book. It‘s a nice, heartwarming, romantic story that connects now and then. I liked the basic idea and how Jane was quite realistically woven into today with all its technological progress. I must admit that my eyes were a bit wet when the two protagonists got their happy end I sniffed a bit. 🤧

It‘s the second time Jane Austen‘s ring is mentioned. Must be something special.

So I looked it up and paste the link for you.

Penny works as a bookseller and takes Jane with her. Of course, Jane wanders around wanting wants to read. So Penny suggests to her Charles Dickens‘ “Great Expectationsâ€. And that reminds me that I also always wanted to read this book.

I needed to give in on “Two Cities†because I didn‘t understand enough of Dickens‘ English. So it might be better to read a translated copy of “Great Expectationsâ€. 🤷ğŸ½â€â™€ï¸

(2/2) It‘s okay to bail books. I always say so and it‘s one of my inner convictions.

But especially in times when I don‘t seem to find a book that knocks me flat for a while I catch myself thinking: “What kind of reader am I if I constantly bail books?â€

So jerky. 🙄

Anybody else with similar experiencesâ“

(1/2) You know … being a frequent reader sometimes surprises me because by doing so I learn things about myself I haven‘t been aware before.

I started with Jane Austen even yesterday and stopped at about page 50 without noticing.

I remember that when I read the two “Infernaleâ€-books I was constantly glancing at the number of pages left. I did that right from the beginning. So it seems I still don‘t trust my intuition enough …

Incredible but true: This is a book by a German author so I paste you an outline of the story.

“What would you do if you found a stranger in your bed in the morning who turns out to be the real Jane Austen herself?

The book-seller Penny Lane, nagged by lovesickness, is shocked at first, but then the joy at her unexpected guest is big – because who is more familiar with affairs of the heart than her favourite author?“

Yeah, seems the next book I picked from my wish list is – 🥠a love story‼ï¸ğŸ˜‚

But this time one I chose _deliberately_ because all of, for example, the cover cries “love story†and “chick litâ€. It won‘t be teenage romance hidden under a dystopian veneer. 🤷ğŸ½â€â™€ï¸
