I found it! Somehow it was in one of my too-many TBR piles, like the one on the left. Definitely plan to read again soon. On the inside it indicates I bought this on May 17, 1995. When I was pregnant with my oldest child.
And in the meanwhile I‘ve culled a few of my TBR books, for donating later. When I could be reading instead 🙄.
I was thinking about this novel published 25 years ago which takes place in Los Angeles just after the Rodney King verdict and the riots. Written by African American author Bebe Moore Campbell (1950-2006), I thought at the time that it was a good book. But I can‘t find it anywhere in my house! Frustrated because my LibraryThing indicates I still own it. Have any of you read this recently, and if so does it hold up well after all these years?
pickAs an LA native, a white girl from the 1970s suburbs, I was astonished by the Rodney King verdict. How did you find 12 people that blind and biased to put on one jury? Then I read this book and got it. There were way more than 12. I‘d just been blind, maybe no less than some of them. We have a long way to go, and books like this help us along the way.

Last pic of the night: these are the parents of those adorable 3 kiddos that I get to be the auntie to- my much older (by a week!) step-brother and sister-in-law, Chad and Jessica. Getting to see family that I hardly ever get to see was the bright spot in this weekend. Now, off to bed. The last leg of my journey starts in the morning.
