The Greatest Short Stories Of Leo Tolstoy
The Greatest Short Stories Of Leo Tolstoy | Tolstoy
2 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
The Russian novelist and moral philosopher Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) ranks as one of the world s great writers, and his War and Peace has been called the greatest novel ever written. The purpose of all true creative art, he believed, is to teach. But the message in all his stories is presented with such humour that the reader hardly realises that it is strongly didactic. The seven parts into which this book is divided include the best known Tolstoy stories. God Sees the Truth, but Waits and A Prisoner in the Caucasus which Tolstoy himself considered as his best; How Much Land Does a Man Need? depicting the greed of a peasant for land; the most brilliantly told parable, Ivan the Fool these are all contained in this volume.

What can I say about Tolstoy that already has been said?

Leo Tolstoy was a Russian writer who primarily wrote novels and short stories. Later in life, he also wrote plays and essays. His two most famous works — ‘War and Peace‘ and ‘Anna Karenina‘, are acknowledged as two of the greatest novels of all time and a pinnacle of realist fiction. Many (including me) consider Tolstoy to have been one of the world‘s greatest novelists.

KathyWheeler I‘ve read and liked Anna Karenina but haven‘t read War & Peace yet. 3y
suvata @KathyWheeler Same. I think I‘m a little intimidated by war and peace, but I will tackle it one of these days. Anna Karenina is probably one of my all-time favorite books. 3y
KathyWheeler @suvata I think I‘m intimidated by War & Peace too. 3y
