I'm giving this a pick because, while I didn't relate to much of the book, what I did relate to was great.

I‘ve read a couple of Lysa‘s books this year and man am I so glad her books fell into my hands!
I didn‘t follow the format of this devotional book as it is intended at all, to read morning and night, but her words from this book were shown to me right when I needed to read them.
If you are a person of faith and have had a season or are currently in a season of wondering if you‘ll make it, let this book encourage you through that.
Sometimes the hard thing and the right thing are the same. 💯
Focusing on beauty isn‘t to deny the pain. It‘s just refusing to let it steal anything else from us.
Harsh and unnecessary criticism says a lot more about that person‘s insecurities than our inadequacies.
God‘s love is not based on us; it‘s simply placed on us. And it‘s from this place we should live…loved.
Shame pushes people further into darkness. But our own admission of how desperately we need grace and truth helps people walk toward the same kind of healing we have found.
Shame actually makes people feel more and more inclined never to expose their deepest pain to any kind of healing light.
We don‘t have to stay stuck here, friend. Forgiveness is the weapon. Our choices moving forward are the battlefield. Being released from that heavy feeling is the reward. Regaining the possibility of trust and closeness is the sweet victory. And walking confidently with the Lord from hurt to healing is the freedom that awaits.
Redemption can still be your story even if it doesn‘t look the way you thought it would. God is not done, and none of this will be wasted.
Healing is both a choice and a process. When we want to heal, we must allow ourselves time to walk through the necessary process.
Slow moments where we acknowledge the pain we are feeling helps point us in the direction of healing. We must feel the pain to deal with the pain and eventually heal the pain.
Treat emotional and brain pain the same as you would physical pain. Pay attention.
Compassion doesn‘t mean we‘re overlooking the harsh reality of things we‘re facing or stuffing feelings we need to process.
You may be experiencing pain in your story right now, but that doesn‘t mean this pain will make up the whole story of your life. It doesn‘t have to be the story you tell forever or even the story you‘re known for.
Your pain is real. Your tears matter. Your hurt doesn‘t go unseen.
When the excruciating pain you feel in your heart goes unattended for an extended period of time, it‘s easy to let your heart grow cynical and less compassionate.
One of the quickest ways to get discouraged and disillusioned with the faithfulness of God is to look to people and circumstances as the determining factors.
And as confusing as it may be, God can use even the hard and heartbreaking realities of our lives to shape our characters and match our callings.
Purpose is woven into every created thing, and though you may struggle to believe it sometimes, you are no exception.
“Light fights- and wins. No matter how hard the darkness tries to shut it out, the brightness always breaks through. It only takes the smallest amount of light to defeat an overwhelming amount of darkness. Slivers of light find their way into dark spaces. And the thing that always amazes me is that light shines brightest when the environment around it is darkest. This is true with physical light. And this is true with spiritual light as well.”
pickThis was a good devotional for me at this time in my life. I recommend it.
Boundaries will help you stay fixed on what is good, what is acceptable, and what you need to stay healthy and whole.
Maybe for today, it‘s just enough to sit and think through the truth that the only sustainable change you have control over is making a sustainable change for yourself.
As we purposefully ease the ache in others, we will see it is beautifully eased in us.
Most of all I need to reset what is and is not normal. When you‘ve lived a long time with the dysfunctions of unacceptable behaviors, these can seem more and more normal. I need to establish a new normal for myself.
The damage from the trauma is most apparent after the source of the trauma leaves. That‘s when you see the real impact of the loss. It‘s a lot to take in, and most of the time it will take years to fully process.
The Enemy wants us to believe that times of silence are a curse of loneliness. A burden of shame. A reminder of the remains of what once was but is no longer. But God wants us to know that times of silence are really pathways to closeness with Him.
Sometimes being grateful means choosing to see what is instead of being blinded by what isn‘t. It‘s a tough choice in some moments. Brutal, actually. But it‘s worth fighting through.
Choosing gratitude right in the middle of what‘s hard isn‘t denial. But it is choosing to do only what can be done today.
I can find security for today even as I face uncertainty about tomorrow.
God has a perfect plan in the midst of a million imperfect realities.
