The Body in the Trees
The Body in the Trees: A Bowman of the Yard Investigation | Richard James
'The best Bowman book so far!' 'Death is commonplace here, Inspector Bowman.' When a man is found hanged in the woods around the village of Larton, a troubled Inspector Bowman is despatched to investigate, only to discover that this is the latest in a series of supposed suicides. He finds a village beset by suspicion, where every man is his neighbour's enemy and the fingers point at any number of parties. It's not long, however, before Inspector Bowman's fragile mental state places those closest to him in even greater danger. The gripping third investigation for Bowman Of The Yard. ________________ WHEN AND WHERE DOES THE BODY IN THE TREES TAKE PLACE? The books in the Bowman Of The Yard series are each set in a different season of 1892. The Body In The Trees takes place in the summer of that year and focuses on events in a fictional village in Berkshire. WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT THE BODY IN THE TREES? I wanted to get Bowman, and the reader, out of London for a change! After the dark and dingy alleys of the capital as seen in the last two books, it was nice to write about broad horizons and open skies. WHAT HAS HAPPENED SINCE THE LAST NOVEL? The events that follow the second book, The Devil In The Dock, are detailed in two short stories set immediately after. They show Bowman on a downward spiral as he grapples with the implications of his wife's death. YOU LEAVE BOWMAN IN QUITE A DARK PLACE AT THE END OF THIS BOOK. WHY ARE YOU SO CRUEL TO HIM? I know! It breaks my heart! If you've been following the series, you will know that Bowman's decline could only ever lead him to one place. With just one more book left in this current series, I'm afraid things are going to get worse for our inspector before they get better.
