Pickpick

This is not a book I would reccomend to others because it is creepy, weird, confusing and vague. However the writing was so atmospheric that I couldn't help but be compelled to keep reading despite the fact that I mostly didn't know what exactly was happening or where the hell it was going. Continued below

Mynameisacolour The ending left me unsettled and with questions unanswered but the writing was good and I'm still glad I read it although the story itself was like a strange disjointed dream that left me scratching my head in the morning. 🤔🤔🤔 4d

Today I went to the library for the first time in a couple of years looking to find some books for the little readers and something random and unplanned for myself. The cover to this one caught my eye, it matches my NIN tee shirt and nail polish. 🤣

Mynameisacolour There's not a summary for it on Litsy so here it is: Jeremy is a 22 year old kid in small town Iowa working at The Video Hut during the late 90's. A couple of customers report problems with 2 videos. In the middle of these videos there are scenes that seem to have been spliced in..poorly lit home video with odd, dark, sometimes violent and deeply disquieting. There are no identifiable faces or dialogue but there are some recognizable landmarks 1w
Mynameisacolour these are just outside of town. So begins John Darnielles haunting and masterfully unsettling Universal Harvester. The once placid Iowa fields and farmhouses now sinister and imbued with loss and instability and profound foreboding. 1w
Mynameisacolour The novel will take Jeremy and those around him deeper into this landscape than they ever expected to go. They will become part of a story that unfolds years into the past and years into the future, part of an impossible search for something someone once lost that they would do anything to regain. 1w
TheAromaofBooks This sounds quite good! 1w

Jumping in on the #weeklyforecast
Looks like I'm in for some strange and varying weather this week! James and the Giant Peach is the bedtime story pick for the little readers. I'm hoping to do a little inner work and read a chapter or two a day from Feeling Good as well as starting Fantastic Land for #lmpbc.

I can't believe October is over already! We even got a little snow yesterday too🥶😱🥶 I set a low goal of 3 books this month and beat it by one. 1,234 pages read and my favorite was The Testaments! 💚 Circue Du Freak was #bbrc #middlegrademadeeasy readers choice pick. I'm using Frankenstein for the #ughhhhh prompt because Victor Frankenstein is such a painfully bumbling schmuck. 😬😬😬

Reading the second book of the Cirque Du Freak series with my fourth grader. What a difference a cover can make. On the left charming and inviting, on the right, anxiety inducing and slightly terrifying! ( those gnarly goat horns 😱) I bought the pretty edition to read to/with my daughter and she promptly lost it. Found the second one at a rummage sale for about 10 cents and magically the first one turned back up.

Texreader I had that copy on the right when I was a kid but never read it. I‘m certain you are right. That cover did nothing to lure me into the book. 1mo
TheAromaofBooks I used to have several books from the series on the right when I was kid. They aren't really even what I would consider an abridged edition - they have basically been rewritten to be significantly shorter. The one on the left is a beautiful copy. I keep seeing different books in those editions and kind of want all of them!! 1mo

Personally, I think this one was worth the hype. There were parts that had me shook! There were some very graphic and violent scenes. Some of the characters were stone cold bad a**'s and others just cringy or psycho but overall very real. I think the author did a fantastic job painting a very realistic picture of how people from around the globe would react to a situation like this. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

"Plenty of humans were monstrous, and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human."
For me this is between a so-so and a pick. It felt much like reading the novel version of a comic book. The powers of the characters were interesting and it was well written. If they ever get around to making the movie I would say that it would probably be better than the book. Undecided if I'll read book two.

Recently I found this at a book sale and was SO excited because boy, do I love books/movies/shows about Alaska. For some reason I totally thought this was the novel that the movie Into the wild is based on. Wrong. 🙄🙄🙄 Which didn't dawn on me until about 20 pages in, ugh. Reading it anyway for #BBRC #Teenangst not appropriate for middle grade.
