I got this for free from #botm since it was the book of the year for 2024…I wanted to see what all the hype was about. At first, I wasn‘t sure if I was going to like it (it‘s character driven which isn‘t my preference) but I ended up enjoying it. I was entertained!

Well, I was not expecting that ending. This was a mixture of thriller/mystery story with a story about grief. The whole time I tried to guess what terrible thing happened in the island, and my guesses were incorrect. I felt for the family but I did not care for the affair that the 2 main adults got into. However, I was eager to find out how it was going to end.

Can't Get Enough | Kennedy Ryan

This was a fantastic contemporary romance. As always Kennedy Ryan creates main characters that you absolutely love and root for as they go through difficult circumstances. This book also deals with contemporary issues without simplifying or sugar coating. I think this my favorite of the series, as I have loved Hendrix throughout the series, and her finding such an amazing love interest was wonderful.⬇️

Nessavamusic Can‘t wait to see what Kennedy Ryan writes next! 5⭐️ #bookspinbingo! @TheAromaofBooks 21h

Here‘s my July TBR. It‘s summer break so I‘m back in more concrete TBR mode. As always I‘m participating in #bookspin #doublespin #bookspinbingo & #roll100 to chip away at my never ending TBR. 😎

This is *not* the intergenerational friendship story the blurb promises; I think the marketing dept. had no idea what to do with it. It's pretty dark, but also tender; I was thoroughly engrossed but left going “I don't know how to feel“ by the end. The messages about loving books and the vagaries of fandom are very mixed. (Perhaps inevitable for an book written in these times.)

willaful BTW, though it's very easy to equate the author in the book to Rowling and the fandom to HP, *this* author's children's series has a character that uses they/them pronouns, so yay for that! 23h

A Novel Love Story | Ashley Poston

I didn't expect to like this as much as I did, because there's something about Poston's style that I don't quite jibe with, and I'm not a big fan of the sweet, small town romance subgenre this celebrates. But I do love me a high concept story and this was very clever and pretty touching.

This is one of those weird books that I like less every time I read it. When I first read it ~age 11, I loved it: Black Beauty except a dog! But subsequent rereads as an adult have made me look at this book a little more critically. My main complaint is that there isn't actually a story. In BB, we have a clear linear story, from birth to final home. But Joe is just a collection of random sermonettes against animal cruelty. I think that as a child⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) I had more to learn about the concept of cruelty through carelessness - you don't have to hit your dog with a stick to mistreat him. But as an adult, I found this book much preachier than I remembered, and I definitely wanted more story. The book was choppy and abrupt, with some chapters feeling very unnecessary or shoehorned in just to get another specific lesson checked off the list. I can see why it was popular when it was published, ⬇ 1d
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) and Joe is a likable narrator, but as a more critical reader than I was as a child, I find this book to be lacking, well, soul. There just isn't a real connection between the reader and any of the characters, including Joe, who ends up just feeling like a mouthpiece for Saunders's lessons. Despite being a well-loved book when I was growing up, I actually don't see myself rereading this one again. 1d

TheAromaofBooks PS Beautiful Joe did not specifically address whether forcing your pet to pose with a book is animal cruelty, but I think Waylon may have thoughts 😂 1d

This was okay...I enjoyed Alex but not Violet as much. Violet needed to shut up a few times, IMO. Some of the sexy stuff was good, but it got old pretty quick.
