Solid mystery that kept me guessing at one point I was sure I knew what happened only to have my theories turned on their head. Once the first reveal happened I figured out what the next would be but that was not a bad thing as it made me feel kinda smart LOL.

This was a good read and I enjoyed the Welsh setting.

Already recommend to my Nan she will love this.

Short speeches and articles from Pratchett‘s lifetime collected together to form a kind of narrative of said life.

Funny, angry and brimming with life.

Sad to see how some things haven‘t changed and we are no further forward in many health respects.

As this is a collection of other works the jokes and scenarios do get a little repetitive but it has made me want to revisit Discworld soon

Good end to the trilogy which does leave the door open for more adventures with El and friends.

In this one we learn more about magic, enclavers and how enclaves are built.

This ARC was provided by Random House UK (via NetGalley) in exchange for an honest review.

This is a beautiful story of family specifically the female interactions in a family down through 4 generations. Each woman has her own distinct voice and I loved the way even Nana is not above a good cussing session.

Due to the nature of this book I cannot really say anything for fear of spoilers. All I can say is this is twisted and twisty and I loved it. Fisher really knows how to throw you a curve ball. Believable perhaps not but a great ride.

This is a quiet understated novel I was pulled in by the almost poetic writing. This book is definitely character and not action driven. It is also really hard to describe as to appreciate it you really need to immerse yourself in the story a brief overview does it no justice. Think you can get the hint I am making.

This was an improvement over book 1 although there was the obligatory rape scene.

More what I expected from a time travel saga.

An interesting look at what physical possessions Levy has decided contribute to her “Real Estate” or as she sometimes muses her “un-real Estate”. At 144 pages this was a breeze to read through, the narrative feels as if Levy is speaking directly to you over a nice hot drink in a cozy café. This book totally embodies women together chatting, setting the world to rights and speculating about how things got to this point.

I would recommend this to fans of Levy‘s writing and to anyone who wants an honest view of the world from a female perspective that feels like a chat with a friend.

#ReadAroundTheWorld #Belize

This is a low pick for me it does what it needed to do which was to give me an insight into life in Belize but the translation is weird wrong tense frequently used and totally incorrect words littered throughout, this is one that would benefit from a good edit to maintain cohesion.

The interspersed history is like a school lecture and drags you out of the story but it is informative.

Solid 3 star mystery for Banks to solve.

This time we have 2 different cases one from the past when Banks is a teenager and one in the present day which has striking similarities with the case in the past.

Unfortunately Banks seems to be turning into Captain Kirk and any new female that appears in the series also appears in his bed. Not sure this is necessary for the story.

This tackles an important point in history but it does it in such a way that all the “action” happens off screen. I found myself frequently confused a major event would have occurred in the book but you would only find out what and how much later in the story, it was all shrouded in subtle hints as if the reader was meant to know what those hints meant. Perhaps other readers did, perhaps it is just me that missed it.

Not quite what I was expecting from the description I was expecting a romance in the style of Good Night Sweetheart where there was actually some difficulty choosing between lovers and between times but this was not that at all.

Also what are we supposed to think of men? It felt like every other man was a rapist. There is rape, attempted rape and then male rape just to top things off and then throw in a side of torture just for fun.

This is a powerful story but to me it is overshadowed by the brilliance that is Passing, this is an earlier work and you can see how Larson has developed as a writer.

As a mixed raced child Helga doesn‘t feel like she fits in anywhere she doesn‘t feel black or white enough to belong decisively to either camp. The ending for me is tragic.

This is an important work, it is a short read (under 200 pages) but it really packs a punch.

#Reading1001 For most of the book I really enjoyed the story the narrator is snarky and there are very amusing one liners scattered throughout, however after the key event of the story (not the big reveal) the book loses its way as if it has lost sense of what it wants to be.

The ending finally released the reader on a low note and while I can forgive a poor beginning a poor ending taints the whole book.

It has been a long time since I last read a book in this series and from what I can remember of past reads this takes a significant detour from the usual set up.

The investigation is a cold case in a largely hostile foreign country, Guatemala, looking at identifying victims of political unrest and military coups.

Tragic in that even though it is a cold case the events are too recent for comfort.
