18/100 I'm not sure what possesses me to read this, it's not my usual kind of material. Graphically violent and bloody, it's the story of the men of the Rath family. From father to son, they passed down their legacy of violence and death, until there were none left. I've seen Ron Garney's art on Captain American & Thor, but this was much grittier, verging on Frank Miller's style on Sin City. 3 ⭐⭐⭐💫

#Read2025

Finished a few days ago, the 4th book from the #AuldLangSpine list of @JacqMac & another really good one that‘s on the dark side. (I‘m sensing a pattern… 😱😂 but I like it!) It‘s also my 3rd pick for February‘s #Roll100 (#42 Any Mystery-although it‘s more dystopian horror thriller than mystery). Bizarre & very brutal murders start happening in every state & a few days later the killers start to mobilize & start reading the names of ⬇️

DebinHawaii …those to be killed on the Emergency Broadcast System. Told from the POV of the husband & father, a family goes in the run when complete madness seems to have taken over. That madness seems to be related to an aurora borealis event that affected those that watched with this urge to kill. It‘s very brutal (if you can‘t read about graphic murders this isn‘t your book) & somewhat disjointed, but that adds to the tension & thrills. ⬇️ (edited) 1d
DebinHawaii … Timing also adds to the chills as with the way the US is currently, it actually feels slightly & uncomfortably plausible. I‘ve somehow only read Dark Matters by Crouch & this is one of his early books, rereleased I think. It‘s not perfect but it certainly kept me tensely reading (& comforting myself with chocolate) & I liked the thrills. (edited) 1d
monalyisha I approve of comfort by chocolate! 1d

Crap on a cracker! I have to say this is the best book I've read all year, and I seriously doubt any book will top it. There was so much. Ugh! I can't tell you about it because I will ruin it. OK! OK! I received The Writer from J. D. Barker!! He wrote it with James Patterson. In all honesty, I thought it probably wouldn't be that good because the last couple of books I've read from Patterson haven't been up to par to me. This one,⬇️

MonicaLoves2Read though! Good Grief, it's a book that needs like 100/100 stars. I wish I could discuss it with someone who has read it. Do yourself a favor: pre-order it, beg your library to get it, or be waiting at your bookstore when it comes out on March 17, 2025. Just get it and read it!! It's soo good! I never saw that coming. The way they left it. Ugh! 3d

2 1/2 ⭐️

It's a short book with 5 True Crime stories. The main one is about the I-70 Strangler. Herb Baumeister was a married man, but he had homosexual tendencies. He was committed to a psychiatric hospital as a youth by his father. His wife could count on her hand the number of types they had sex in 25 years of marriage. He committed over 21 murders. The other 4 stories are missing person cases and murder cases. Mine is not a popular ⬇️

MonicaLoves2Read opinion, but the editing was not really done.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

My second #Roll100 pick for February (#60 Any Retelling) & also read for #Pemberlittens #JaneAustenThenAndNow after reading Sense and Sensibility in January. I enjoyed the first book of the Jane AustenMurder Mysteries which was a retelling of Pride and Prejudice but I liked this one even more! The author kept the soul of the characters but putting them into a mystery setting where the Dashwood sisters try to solve the ⬇️

DebinHawaii … mystery of their detective father‘s death was a smart move that made both Elinor & Marianne more interesting. The mystery was good & kept me guessing. I‘m going to have to read the third, Manslaughter Park now. 4d

I never even heard of what happened in Gander, Newfoundland, on September 11, 2001. Some of my friends on Litsy had read it and recommended it. I'm so glad they did. It's an uplifting story. It shows that there are still people in this world who will go out of their way to help people and be nice. I remember how America came together on September 11, and I wonder what has happened to us. We are such a divided country now. ⬇️

MonicaLoves2Read Why can't we all just get along?

😊 Happy Reading 😊

kspenmoll There was a wonderful Broadway musical , Cone From Away, based on this event that was also televised at some point. It was such a fabulous celebration of humanity at its best. It may still be available to stream. I cannot remember how long ago we watched it. 4d
MonicaLoves2Read @kspenmoll I say that in the book, but didn't think about maybe streaming it. Thanks 3d

“The connections between and among women are the most feared, the most problematic, and the most potentially transforming force on the planet” Adrienne Rich
This novel weaves together the stories of three women of the same bloodline: a 17th century witch trial; a young girl growing up during the war, kept closeted in her home by her father; and an abusive relationship in 2019. It‘s often a harrowing tale but I felt invested in the characters.

A cute cozy mystery. Has everything cozies have from an amuter sleuth, no gory murder, fun cat and dog characters, a red herring set in a small town. It's set in Alexandria, Virginia's charming Old Town neighborhood. Sophia Winston is the MC. She's an entertaining guru that is in a cooking contest when a murder happens. 4⭐️
