To Kill Rasputin
To Kill Rasputin: The Life & Death of Grigori Rasputin | Andrew Cook
1 post | 1 read | 4 to read
The murder of Rasputin on the night of December 16–17, 1916 has always seemed extraordinary: first he was poisoned, then shot and finally drowned in a frozen river by Russian aristocrats fearful of his influence on Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra. Or was he? Dramatic new evidence from previously unpublished documents, diaries, forensic reports and intelligence records now mean the plot takes a remarkable twist. Grigori Rasputin is probably one of the best known but least understood figures in the events that ultimately led to the downfall of the Russian Tsars. His political role as the power behind the throne is obscured today, as it was then, by the fascination with his morality and private life. Andrew Cook's re-investigation ofRasputin's death reveals for the first time the real masterminds behind the murder of the "mad monk." To Kill Rasputin finally provides the answers to the many mysteries surrounding this pivotal moment in Russian history.

...and still remains unclear. The story is focused on the day of the murder and not on the life of Rasputin and his role/influence on the Empress. In the foreground are the alleged killers and their connection with the Rasputin. The book is based on various official documents and in certain parts story drags a little but still - an interesting insight on the day of the murder.

Peterdamien Well that sounds fascinating. And reminds me that I should seek out a wider, more generalized book all about Rasputin 8y
Simona @Peterdamien Yes, this is a very specific and narrowly focused story. Three days ago this one http://www.bookdepository.com/Rasputin-Douglas-Smith/9781447245841 was released and it is clear from the description that it is a Rasputin biography. 8y
Peterdamien @Simona that looks excellent, and exactly what I had in mind. That's terrific. Also, I'd somehow never been to Book Depository before, time to give them all my money 8y
Simona @Peterdamien They receive a big part of my salary each month🤑. The only downside is that delivery takes up to several weeks (at least to the my part of the world). Happy spending! 8y
