The Dark Fields | Alan Glynn

Imagine a drug that makes your brain function in a fantastically efficient way, tapping in to your fundamental resources of intelligence and drive. Imagine a drug that could make you read and remember entire books in a matter of hours, or learn a foreign language in a day. Imagine a drug that could make you process information so fast you can see the patterns on the stock market. Eddie Spinola is on such a drug. It's a pill called MDT-48. It's a Viagra for the brain, a designer drug that's redesigning his life. Eddie's not the only one doing MDT, but with his dealer shot dead and Eddie escaping with a large stash, he's the only one with a supply. And while the drug is helping Eddie make the sort of money he's only dreamed about, he's also beginning to suffer its side-effects ...

I‘ve been leaving notes for my little sister @mimsyborogroves for most of our lives. It‘s only recently that we are reading similar books and I‘m so excited to be able to recommend things and hear about her thoughts! ♥️👯‍♀️

Holy crap you guys this book was KILLER. Fast paced, and a thoroughly enjoyable ride. As much as I enjoyed the movie, I found the book 100% more immersive and focused a lot more on the intricacies of the drug, which I enjoyed. Another thing that I enjoyed is that the book is set in mid 90‘s New York, which I, being born in 1994, never experienced, and in some ways feels just as exotic to me as England in 1500... #scifi

It‘s not like me to have multiple books on the go, but I felt the need for a break from my current #tome and this one has been calling my name! I remember really enjoying the movie, so I‘m excited for the book!

I guess this was originally released as "The Dark Fields," but after the release of the movie they reissued the book with the movie name. I think I saw the movie years ago, but I only vaguely remember it. I am fascinated by the premise, though, that a smart drug can help you reach your full potential. The author describes it as a Faustian pact, but I couldn't help being tempted by the idea. In the age of body hacks, this should be reality already.
