I'm housesitting so I get to remember what it's like to own pets, to have someone do excited when I walk in the door... I was interested in this book because of the Denver connection, but the audiobook is driving me crazy. The audiobook reader makes it seem like everyone talks VERY SLOWLY WITH LOTS OF PAUSES and I listen at 1.5x the usual speed!

Quick read, but the characters linger. Again, Laura Lippman does not disappoint.

This was not my usual reading experience. Eleanor drove me crazy at first and it was a slog to get through the first part. Generally, my first impression doesn't change that much, but somewhere along the way, Eleanor began to grow on me. By the end, I adored her and her quirks, and the way she was trying to grow and understand the world around her. It made me reevaluate the assumptions we make about others and the importance of human connection.

I loved this book so much I've told dozens of people about it and even asked my grandfather to read it and tell me what he thinks. I was crying laughing, but it also changed the way I look at the world. This is the kind of philosophy book I can get behind.

This book gutted me. It's phenomenal - a personal, fascinating story of people whose lives are a continuing series of crises, and so much is out of their control. Highly recommend. Wish it were required reading in Congress as well...

I guess this was originally released as "The Dark Fields," but after the release of the movie they reissued the book with the movie name. I think I saw the movie years ago, but I only vaguely remember it. I am fascinated by the premise, though, that a smart drug can help you reach your full potential. The author describes it as a Faustian pact, but I couldn't help being tempted by the idea. In the age of body hacks, this should be reality already.

This little guy is tired since he got a lot of walking this holiday weekend while I was listening to the new Karin Slaughter book. I really enjoyed this one. I've been reading a lot of her lately, and though I liked Pretty Girls, it verged on torture porn. I was worried she was trying to top each book with more graphic violence. Luckily, that's not the case here. There are some difficult parts, of course, but so much character development. Loved.

Quick, interesting read. Now I'm ready to start The Good Daughter!

I think overall it's a pick, although after finishing it I wasn't sure how I felt. I'm a sucker for lifelong friend stories, and I kept turning the pages (so to speak, since I listened on audiobook) but I'm a little underwhelmed by the ending.

Sara would never be able to give her heart away to another human being the way she had with Jeffrey. It wasn‘t that she was incapable of love; she was simply incapable of repeating that kind of abandon.

It looks like a lot of Litsy readers either weren't thrilled with this or downright hated it. I really liked it though and even recommended it to my boss (which I'm now a little wary about seeing the visceral reactions of others). I get the impatience with whiny rich people (my inclination when I read The Rambles) but I saw this more as a "reset" novel - a way to accept that plan B may in fact be a better plan after all.
