"Will one day rank alongside of Edgar Lee Masters, Robert Frost, and William Carlos Williams." --Minneapolis Tribune "Kooser ranges over familiar territory, but maturity and full command of his craft now allow him to risk a wider scope, both in subject matter and form. . . . Weather Central forecasts the best of Ted Kooser's poetry: a steady voice, arresting and memorable images, and vigorous play in metaphor that can nourish the human soul." --Southern Humanities Review "Kooser's poems have the beauty and wisdom of something closely tied to the soil. . . . Perfect combinations of imagery and music, American Poetry, the real thing." --Bloomsbury Review Ted Kooser was born in Ames, Iowa, in 1939. He was educated in the Ames public schools, at Iowa State University, and the University of Nebraska. His awards include two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, the Stanley Kunitz Prize from Columbia magazine, and the 1981 Society of Midland Authors Award for Poetry for Sure Signs. His poems have appeared in many magazines including the Antioch Reveiw, the Hudson Review, and the Kenyon Review.

As I drop my kid off at 5:30 am for the Middle School ski trip, I realize that I thought I understood weather maps, but I don't.

How can it be 15 degrees if the "low" for today is 22 degrees?

Dorianna The low here is supposed to be 23. Somehow it's 16 and "feels like" 3. Last week it was practically summer. I think even the weather maps are confused. 8y
Jennifer3 22 is Sunday night's low. That is how I read it so your 15 must be compared to whatever Saturday's low was supposed to be. 8y
Jennifer3 And I am sorry that it os so cold!!! ❄️🎿 8y

Tamra ❤Ted Kooser 8y
Yossarian @Jennifer3 You may be right, but why should Saturday's low be applicable to Sunday's weather? 8y
Jennifer3 @Yossarian I completely agree, it never made sense to me when the low typically occurs after midnight in the early morning of the next day. 8y

Pickpick

Ted Kooser has a beautiful way of illuminating life's simple moments and drawing out their sacredness. This collection feels at times like earlier work, the elements of his future work all there like luminous precursors of what is to follow.

AliBG Thanks for the peek. Kooser is one of my faves. 8y
Louise @AliBG I went on a bit of a Ted Kooser reading marathon and am gradually posting reviews. He has a beautiful artistic vision, doesn't he! 8y
AliBG Yes. I heard him read once in Cedar Rapids, IA at a small Catholic college. I sat in the front row in a rapture. Actual tears just spontaneously slid down my face at intervals as he read because his poems were so full of LIFE. Real, human life. (Over the top but also true). 8y
Louise @AliBG Thank you for sharing your experience with me. I can completely understand and relate to what you are saying. It's such a gift when an artist's work touches us so deeply! 8y
