A Scream of Swifts | Kate Ayers
Carlton private eye Cade Blackstone has been hired to locate a local winemaker gone AWOL. Word has it the man is in France. So Cade grabs his journalist girlfriend Lauren and off they go for what should be a nice little vacation followed by a simple retrieval. But Lauren is called home early and Cade is left in the South of France by himself. So he does what any car-loving PI would do: He rents a red Ferrari and goes nosing around for the wayward winemaker. He manages to enlist the help of two ex-police types: one, a Scotsman and, the other, a Frenchman, plus their zany friends. They make their headquarters in a local wine bar and gather daily to hatch a plan. But right when Cade thinks he has everything under control, their plot explodes and he's right back where he started. Rather, he's lost ground. Plus, things at home have taken a turn for the worse, too. This is Cade's toughest case yet.
