It's hard to find exciting historical fiction for children. Black Powder is a gem. Set in the days leading up to the Gun Powder plot we follow the adventures of Tom Garnett and Jago his pet mouse as Tom tries to right a wrong he has done. A wonderful tale of high life and low life in Stuart England, woven through with spies and plots and the mysterious Falcon. The whole family loved it.

Our Easter theme this year is historical plots. We went to The Tower of London last week and the boys did the new interactive history trail app. Now we are really enjoying reading Black Powder which is all about the Gun Powder plot as seen through the eyes of a young boy Tom Garnett and his cheeky mouse called Jago. We are wearing our perfect plotting badges we earned at the Tower with pride!
