When we think of classic 19th-century #womenwriters, we think of Austen, the Brontes, or Edith Wharton; we think of white women. But African American women wrote during this time, too. From more famous writers like Sojourner Truth to the lesser-known writers like Ella Sheppard, these women wrote speeches, poetry, novels, memoirs, and so much more.
