This RF book i would use for RA is about Carrie and Dan who experience a hurricane hitting their town. The news told everyone to evacuate, but when Carrie and Dans family decide to stay, they find themselves on top of the roof after their house floods. This book includes numerous facts about hurricanes, maps, timelines, and key words to know. Any student would really enjoy this story, especially if they have ever experienced a hurricane too!

WendyV Using this book in a classroom would be a great strategy to activate students background knowledge on hurricanes, UDL 3.1, and EL 4 linking a lesson on hurricanes to students prior knowledge. I found a list of lesson plans on hurricanes for K-5 from the NEA website. http://www.nea.org/tools/lessons/hurricane-season-grades-k-5.html #UCFLAE3414SP18 6y
JordanL Awesome book for Floridians again, just to give basic knowledge about a hurricane and their power. This book is a must have for Florida classrooms as many students might not have had a hurricane that they remember in their life time. 6y
WendyV I totally agree @JordanL I read it to my 4 year old who just went through hurricane Irma. He was fascinated as I read this story and kept recalling what we went through last year. 6y
DrSpalding You can‘t do much better than the National Education Association website. Excellent alignment and knowing that children need to know about this topic, a wise choice for reading. 6y
