Pink Sari Revolution
Pink Sari Revolution | Amana Fontanella-Khan
2 posts | 3 read | 10 to read
When Sheelu was arrested for stealing from a powerful politician in the notoriously crooked region of Uttar Pradesh, she was sure that she would be forced to accept a prison sentence, not least because she had alleged that she had been assaulted by a man in the politicians household. But then Sampat Pal heard word of the charges, and the formidable commander of the pink-sari-wearing, pink-baton-wielding, 20,000-strong Pink Gang decided to shake things up. Narrating the story of Sampat Pal and the Pink Gangs fight for Sheelu, as well as for others facing injustice and oppression, journalist Amana Fontanella-Khan delivers a riveting portrait of women grabbing fate with their own hands and winning back their lives.

Teacup my maternal grandfather sent to my grandmother while he was serving in WWII as a prison guard of Germans who would go on trail for their crimes.

Bookwormjillk Ohhh this looks so good. Thanks! 1y
Catsandbooks Oh wow! Sounds great! 🇮🇳 1y
tpixie Adorable teacup and saucer. What stories your grandpa could tell- but probably didn‘t ❤️ great Veteran‘s Day tribute. 1y
TheBookHippie @tpixie No, he never said much. He was however always open to talk politics and their affect with anyone, all sides. He always tried to learn as well as part wisdom on whomever he was speaking with. He always believed communication would solve most things and that hatred was taught. I miss him terribly. I was fortunate he lived to 93 and I was 40 when he died. I have such good memories. 1y
tpixie @TheBookHippie what a wonderful man! Such a blessing you had more time than most with their grandpa- though never long enough ❤️ 1y
